Hello everyone,

today we discovered that it’s possible to force an evolution of your Eevee, and thus avoid the random evolution outcome that was inherent to Eevee. This is exciting news, as it puts Eevee on top of our “we-want-them-so-bad” Pokemon for two reasons:

  1. Easy to capture, easy to farm
  2. Three different types from 1 Normal type Pokemon – kinda crazy when you think about it

So, how do you force your Eevee to evolve into a form you want? Easy, just name it one of the following names prior to evolving it:

  • Sparky => Jolteon
  • Rainer => Vaporeon
  • Pyro => Flareon

Wait, what? Is this a bug? We wouldn’t say so, more like an easter egg inside the game.

The original anime presented the viewers with a story arc related to the “Eevee brothers”, four Pokemon trainers whose signature Pokemon were Eevee, Jolteon, Vaporeon and Flareon. Sparky, Rainer and Pyro were older brothers and used the evolved Eevee form.

As reddit reports, this naming strategy was used with 100% success rate and also provided video proof of this method!

    Confirmed to only work the if you don’t have that Pokemon in your party. We’re unsure if it will work again if you were to transfer that precious Vaporeon or not though. I’ve personally tested 7 times now with all three Eeveeloutions in my party, and it was completely random as far as naming. Only one time did I get the correct Pokemon for what it was nicknamed, which I blame on coincidence.

    Also, John Hanke (Niantic CEO) confirmed this at SDCC that this is not a bug or a glitch, but rather an Easter Egg intentionally added to the game.
