First hint of the Anniversary Event
The Anniversary Event was originally found by GO Hub’s dataminers in the Pokémon GO 0.67.2 APK. The 0.67.2 version was supposed to be a small bug fix release, but a new ONE_YEAR_ANNIVERSARY flag was silently added to the APK.
Special Pikachu Rumor has been confirmed!
You may have came across a number of rumors about a special Pikachu variant that is due to be released during the Event. There are several sources of that rumor:
- a SIGGRAPH conference e-mail that mentions the release of a Rare Pikachu
- all of the official merchandise for the upcoming “Pokémon, I Choose you Movie” features the same Pikachu variant. The movie is coming out this summer and celebrates 20 Years of Pokémon.
- a trailer tweeted by the official Japanese Pokémon Youtube channel that features a Pikachu interacting with PokéStops. The special Pikachu wears Ash’s famous Trainer Hat. The trailer is available below.
