The Forgotten Pokémon Favourites: Spooky Edition!

Posted in

With our new Forgotten Pokémon AR series, and Halloween on the horizon, we couldn’t resist sharing a special spooky edition!

There are a lot of ghost and dark types that people really love, like Giratina Origin Forme and Mega Gengar (especially that shiny!), but also, so many that are that bit more neglected and often forgotten, so we’re here to shout out to our neglected spooky faves.

If you haven’t seen your personal fave pop up yet, make sure to comment and tell us who you love and why!

Spiritomb

Spiritomb

Spiritomb is an amazingly creepy Pokémon. Have you ever wondered why we always have to catch 108 Pokémon as part of the yearly Spiritomb quest? It’s because its Pokédex entry tells us that it is formed of 108 spirits, eek! Until this year we had only been able to get ourselves a Spiritomb through the quest line, but with the introduction of the fantastic blue and pink shiny, it has made its way into Pokéstop research tasks too, and I am hyped! It’s been underappreciated and quite literally forgotten about in GO until Halloween every year, so here is some love for this spooky Pokémon!

Dusclops

Dusclops

Dusclops is another Ghost with an eery Pokédex entry; Dusclops’s body is completely hollow – there is nothing at all inside. It is said that its body is like a black hole. This Pokémon will absorb anything into its body, but nothing will ever come back out.’ (Taken from Pokémon Ruby). What is it with these ghosts and just vanishing away people and Pokémon and who knows what else?! It dances hypnotically to lure in its victims, waving its arms to entice you into its black hole.

Giratina Altered Forme

Giratina

Giratina Origin Forme seems to get SO much love, whilst Giratina Altered Forme tends to be left by the wayside as the ‘lesser’ of the two. But when it comes to PVP, Giratina Altered Forme gets to really shine in Ultra League, with pvpoke.com ranking it as the #2 Pokémon over all! It has key wins against Ultra League faves Melmetal, Venusaur and Charizard. With its juicy defence stance, this tanky Pokémon finally gets to shine and take priority over its other usually more popular forme. Also, is anyone else really creeped out by the pale peachy shiny? Almost like it has taken someone’s skin and decided to wear it? Or is it just me and my over-active-watches-too-many-horror-movies imagination?

Cofagrigus

Cofagrigus

Cofagrigus is another Ghost that vanishes outside of the Halloween event, leaving it literally forgotten for most of the year. Based on a sarcophagus, this handsy Ghost is a greedy thing, with its Pokédex entry for Pokémon Black stating ‘It has been said that they swallow those who get too close and turn them into mummies. They like to eat gold nuggets.’. So it kills people and eats gold just for fun? Remind me to not get too close to all those hands! While it may like to eat gold, its shiny version is a gorgeous silver and purple, that is one of the rarest, most sought after shinies in PokémonGO.

Marowak

Marowak

Any OG Pokémon fan will remember their heart breaking when they realized that Cubone and Marowak wear the skull of their dead Mother. By the time Cubone evolves into Marowak, the skull has become fused to their head, and they can no longer remove it, how traumatizing! Marowak is often described as having overcome its grief of losing its Mother, but is now full of rage and violence instead, making this Ground type one of the most haunting Pokémon ever. Spooky Pokémon aren’t always ghosts, and this Pokémon is certainly one whose story stays with you in the saddest sort of way. If you played the main series, you’ll remember the sadness of realizing that the ghost that haunted the Pokémon Tower was a Marowak, who died defending their Cubone from Team Rocket, and who you have to help into the Afterlife. Are any Pokémon fans over this yet? Because I know I’m not!

Froslass

Froslass

Another sad but spooky Ghost and also Ice type is Froslass, who is said to be reborn from a woman who was died on an icy mountain and has lingering regrets that keep her here. Its Pokédex entry in Sun states ‘When it finds humans or Pokémon it likes, it freezes them and takes them to its chilly den, where they become decorations.’. So Froslass is a Pokémon who is not only made of a dead woman but also likes to keep humans as decor in its den? And here was me thinking it always seemed quite a serene Pokémon, all part of its trap!

Which spooky Pokémon do you think are underappreciated? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
