Trainers,

in an effort to promote Pokémon GO and the Augmented Reality aspects that the game enables, Niantic has announced the first official Pokémon GO AR Contest! Rewards include a Pokémon GO Plus, a poster autographed by the Pokémon GO team, and wireless Bluetooth earbuds!

The contest lasts until October 25 2017 and takes place on Instagram, where Pokémon trainers are challenged to take an AR picture in accordance to the rules of the contest. As officially confirmed, the contest is skill based and photos will be judged on terms of quality.

Important Rules:

  • snap epic Pokémon GO AR photos and post them on Instagram using the hashtag #PokemonGOcontest
  • the contest lasts until October 25 2017
  • no purchase or payment is necessary to enter or win this contest
  • the contest is limited to countries where Pokémon GO has been officially released as of October 11, 2107
  • in addition, the following countries are excluded from participation:THE BALKANS, BELARUS, BRAZIL, BURMA, CHINA, COTE D’IVOIRE (IVORY COAST), CRIMEA, CUBA, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO, IRAN, IRAQ, ITALY, LIBERIA, NORTH KOREA, PAKISTAN, QUEBEC, RUSSIA, SPAIN, SUDAN, SYRIA, TURKEY, AND ZIMBABWE.

To be eligible for the contest, you must be at least the age of majority in your country and in the general sense it’s not allowed to be related to Niantic, the Pokémon Company or the Pokémon Company International.

A special rule has been established for AR photos featuring real world people: Photos where an individual appears in or is identifiable in the photo will not be considered and will be deemed void.

  • Aryx

Wow. I can’t be the only one who finds this.. extremely underwhelming. So boring.

    • johncol

      Absolutely boring..

  • KatyCro

Ok, so in this contest half of the world is not allowed to participate and the rest can only send photos that meet criterias that are crazy. No people, no third party anything in the picture. So we can just do, what they did for the picture in their initial news post: Find some green grass or maybe basic grey concrete and hope for a pokemon to show up.
It’s gonna be so creative! ^^

    Well… this sucks.
    Even the price sucks… -_-

I hope this wasn’t the 3rd quarter or 4th quarter big event. It sounds like a contest a lame intern came up with.
Meeting Head:”Guys the community is upset. We need to do an event!”
Intern:”What about a photo contest? Its already built into the App.”
Meeting Head:”BRILLIANT! But how much will it cost us?”
Intern:”Well we have these old earbuds and posters lying around, maybe get rid of them as prizes?”
Meeting Head:”DOUBLE BRILLIANT! You’re now our PR Specialist!”

i might join the contest because i still don’t have Pogo plus, but instagram only contest…? i’ll pass.

    • Higher_Ground

      yeah that’s a no-go

  • raichu DL

i felt compelled to submit an articuno photo i took this previous summer, which wowed my raid group.
and then i’ve quickly found instagram to be bunk. apparently you can’t post a photo there without being forced to crop it to a square, at least without editing from an external application. i had to submit it in a way that crops my pokeGO username out, which i hope doesn’t affect its eligibility – but since niantic has the email on my pokeGO account, and is the same on my instagram, it should be of little issue…

Yawn, I spend enough time restarting the game already. I don’t feel like taking AR pics to pad their hit count.
