Niantic has published a new Developer Insights post published today confirming the following

  • the maximum Pokémon storage size you can unlock via in-game store upgrades will be increased to 1500 (up from 1000)
  • everyone will get a 50 slot increase for free, to accommodate for the new Pokémon originally found in the Hoenn region

Niantic has acknowledged player’s demands by saying “We’ve heard your feedback loud and clear”, making this one of the first examples of a player feedback driven decision to be made. This change is not yet live, it’s expected to go live with Generation III.

The official wording of the statement is as follows:

With the addition of Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region, the need for more Pokémon Storage is greater than ever. You’ll now be able to store up to 1,500 Pokémon. We’ve also increased the minimum Pokémon Storage size by 50, so all Trainers will soon be able to carry 50 additional Pokémon.

In addition to the Pokémon storage increase, Niantic has touched on the subject of Battle Parties. Battle Parties are now in a beta period and are currently only available in raid battle scenarios. Battle Parties are currently not synced to your Google/PTC  account — they are saved on your phone during Beta and won’t be available on a different device. Once the feature fully launches, your battle parties will carry over when you switch devices.

We are loving the increased communication and these developer insights. After almost a year of communication breakdown and bite sized news, often veiled in controversy and confusion, it’s completely refreshing to see something different.

We, for one, welcome our new communication overlords.

I was hoping for discount for pokemon storage as well like last time.. but oh well

    • KoenB

Same here, but am still hopeful though

    • redfish33333

Do we know, that there will be no discount?

      • Brady Newton

        yes

    • Robdebobrob

It wasnt there immediatly when they increased the size last time either. That would be a bad buisiness desicion.

    • Naud van Dalen

I would buy all the storage upgrades I could buy so I’d have plenty of storage space until gen 4 releases. 😀

  • x Ktulu x

Ok that’s very good but I hope there will still be a price reduction on pokemon storage when Gen 3 goes out

    • KoenB

It also comes with new items (evolution stones, star, more?), so I’m hoping discounted bag upgrades also, like last time.

      • Nick Wilson

Discounts maybe for Christmas event the 21st.

      • Chanderule

        No evolution stones

  • Ph. Win

And I bought an extension yesterday… *damn*

    • KoenB

It’s still free slots you gain. At one point you’d have purchased an extension again anyway.

  • Edwin Fung

When will we receive the additional free slots?

    • David Wolfram

      When gen 3 officially drops

      • Brady Newton

which just happened a few days ago i am so happy!

  • Mateusz Vinex Kurzyński

I would like to see some kind of market in game, where we can change our useless candies / evolution items for stardust!

    • Dan

I can agree with Pokemon candies, but not items that you collect.

  • Antonio Mercurio

1 free slot, nice! But is there going to be a discount! i have saved 700coins! If there is 50% off i will probs buy an additional 3

    • Patrick Terry Jr.

      50 free slots?

      • Antonio Mercurio

by slot i mean pokemon bag storage!

  • Matthieu Oldfield

Note how these are called “developer insights”. Functionalities usually have nothing to do with developers and are thought up by Product Owners (of marketing). Seems like they were doing a pretty bad job at communicating which is usually dependent of the Marketing unit and went directly to the source: developers. This isn’t a bad thing 😉

  • ElektricSt0rm

Hype! I’m glad that Niantic is taking more of an effort to listen with the pogo community. I’m also glad they’re giving us 50 free slots instead of making us pay. Looking forward to gen 3!
