We observed a flat 15% increase in number of rural spawns over the past 3 days.

Our analysis of data provided by a local Croatian tracker suggests that the rural spawns were gradually increased over the past 2 days.

Please be aware that we are not allowed to share the data set with our community, but we are allowed to share the conclusions and summary.

How the data was collected
  • The data was collected over an area of roughly 60 km2, almost exclusively rural areas, using only bot accounts that patrol a set of routes on the map
  • The owner of the tracker uses a self hosted tracker to collect data over one specific area, for his own research and data collection projects
Data observation and summary
  • On the spawn increase:
    • The increase in spawn was not instant, it slowly grew to roughly 15% over 27.04 and 28.04
    • There was an increase of spawn points, resulting in an increase in recorded encounters
    • There was no dramatic increase in spawn “rarity”
      • with more spawns comes a bigger chance of rare encounters, but nothing dramatic

We compared the data to historical data of that area with the same period before and the results showed 14.85% more spawns.

There was no change in the way data was collected, the tracker has been using the same number of bot accounts over the same area, as the owner of the tracker uses this data for his own analysis and data projects.

We are still analyzing the data in more depth, however, this is what struck us at first. Stay tuned for more news.

For real u trust everything what is said ? Do u rly think they are happy to find 15 % more ratatas ?

      • nishant wadhwa

Rattatas and pidgeys are rare here, they barely spawn. My city is fire+rock+ground biome so that’s why so many geodudes, sandshrews, onix, growliths, rhyhorn and their evolutions too but last night I caught an aerodactyle and a miltank. I think change is coming

        • Josh Hack

I live in a large water biome, so magikarp and others are here all the time. THere has been no change here

For the love of god, please get rid of these video ads that automatically scroll the page down to the ad! I’d love to read an article you’ve posted, but I can’t because the page keeps scrolling down every time a new ad loads.

    • Thanks for the report, we had no idea that was happening!

I just click report ad once and it minimizes it and stops the jumping to the bottom of the page thing.

I’m confused how this works. Spawn points spawn 1 pokemon every 60 minutes. There was a time period where it was hourly but random within the hour, but I’ve watched several dozen spawn points at the places I usually hunt pokemon and I’ve yet to find a single spawn point that currently deviates from the 60 minute pattern.

To spawn more without adding more spawn points would mean spawning more than once per hour. Either a 15% chance of a second spawn, or slightly quicker turnaround on rural spawn points. Neither of these seems like how Niantic has done things so far.

Is it possible the “no new spawn points” are just new spawn points overlapping old spawn points? One of the areas I hunt regularly has a mass of spawn points that are almost on top of each other. During the period when times were randomized within the hour, you could see they were only off by a little bit, but casually walking by it seemed like they were the same spawn point when they spawned separately.

    15 % of 0 = 0 ?

  • Jhayzee76

I prefer if they add 15% more spawnpoints and more pokéstops and gyms in rural areas
