This morning two biggest Pokémon GO subreddits, The Silph Road and /r/pokemongo, are on fire. A Starbucks employee leaked an internal email that was sent out to all Starbuck employees as a preparation for upcoming promotions and company marketing plans.
The leaked email shows two important things: Niantic is partnering with Starbucks and Generation 2 releases on December 7th.
The email says the following:
“Pokeman – 12/7 Launch of Pokeman Version 2… Starbuck stores will be a part of […missing…] comes into the store: Pokeman Frappuccino (recipe to be communicated)
- Lures will be dropped at all SBUX stores that will provide even more direct […missing…] January / February”
And here’s the leaked image that caused this stir:
The employee went on to describe the email in more details with and explained how mistakes like writing “Pokeman” instead of Pokémon happen:
“I work at Starbucks and this is one of the most recent updates we received from corporate. Now, it’s hard to say whether or not this specifically refers to Generation 2 (although what else could it mean?), whether or not Starbucks and Niantic are partnered up, or if this will even be pushed out on the date specified (things don’t always go to plan). However, it all makes sense to me, but this would be a huge update. Based on the description of the event, it would require Niantic to put a Pokestop at every Starbucks. Lastly, I realize this may seem strange, especially with the “Pokeman”, but it’s a real email and I can send proof to the mods if required. Regardless, this isn’t anything concrete and pretty vague, and no other information was given to us. As a huge fan of Pokemon and Pokemon Go, I couldn’t NOT share the news with everyone. Fingers crossed that it’s gonna happen!” – source
We are waiting for The Silph Road verification, but as one of the Silph Road admins wrote, a mid-December Gen 2 launch would not surprise anyone at this point. It’s not a secret that partners like Starbucks have info on upcoming releases and promotions.
If this info is correct, we are less than a month away from Gen 2. That’s just crazy.
