Manaphy

Manaphy is a Water type Pokémon in Pokemon GO and it will be the only mythical with the ability to breed, Phione. As a Mythical, stats wise isn’t expected much from it as a meta relevant water Pokémon. If the way of obtaining Manaphy will be through Special Research, it will be on level 15, so his MAX CP will be 1399 (1885/2332 MAX CP in raids for standard and weather boosted respectively).

Manaphy has a MAX CP of 3265, with ATK of 210, DEF of 210 and STA of 225. Those stats makes him a less bulkier Vaporeon, but with a slightly better attack.

Manaphy in the Meta

As stated before, his generic Mythical stats won’t help with it usability. As it is impossible to compete for the A tier (Kyogre, Gyarados and soon to be Palkia), Manaphy will most likely place among tier B Pokémon.

To explain this more accurately, here’s a chart with the top Water Pokémon.

Water Type Max CP Attack Defense Stamina
Kyogre 4115 270 228 205
Palkia 3991 280 215 189
Gyarados 3391 237 186 216
Manaphy 3265 210 210 225
Vaporeon 3114 205 161 277
Milotic 3005 192 219 216
Suicune 2983 180 235 225

While Kyogre occupies the top spot, but it can be dethroned very soon in terms of DPS by Palkia, depending on Palkia movepool. Gyarados, despite the attack gap, he can still be considered a Tier A Water Pokémon (Kingler would belong to this tier, but his movepool sucks).
Manaphy is a fairly balanced Pokémon, but that’s worthless in Pokémon Go battle mechanics. Attack is the key and with 210 ATK, Tier B, along side with Vaporeon, Swampert, Feraligatr, Empoleon and Kingler is his place.

In Trainer Battles however, Manaphy might care quite well with its max CP only being slightly about the limit of the Ultra League.

Manaphy Expected Movepool

Fast Moves Charge Moves
  • Bubble
  • Waterfall
  • Surf
  • Psychic
  • Bubble Beam

Bold Indicates STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus).

Surf instead of Hydro Pump is an advantage DPS wise, but is still won’t make of Manaphy a meta relevant Pokémon in the current system. Maybe in the future there will be a place for him in the meta (with Mew and Celebi, among many others).

Weather Influence on Manaphy

As a water Pokémon he has weakness to Grass and Electric types of 140%. The best counters will be  Raikou Electivire and  Zapdos .

Manaphy is resistant against Fire, Ice, Steel and Water.

Weather Pros Cons
Sunny Boosts super-effective Grass moves

Rainy Boosts its potential Water type moves Boosts super-effective Electric moves

Shiny Manaphy

Won’t be that much of a difference between Regular and Shiny Manaphy aside from a lighter blue shade on the shiny version.
