Mega Venusaur Raid Counters Guide

Mega Venusaur is one of the first mega raid bosses introduced in Pokémon GO. Its best counters are strong Psychic types and Fire types.

Mega Venusaur can be duoed with powered up Psystrike Mewtwos in any weather and/or powered up Fire types in Sunny weather, but it is very difficult if you don’t use a mega Pokémon yourself. The safest and fastest way to achieve the duo is to use Mega Charizard Y in Sunny weather followed by Psystrike Mewtwos and other strong Fire types such as Reshiram and Moltres.

Other than that, 5-7 trainers with strong counters should be able to take down Mega Venusaur fairly easily, regardless of weather.

In this guide we will cover the strongest Mega Venusaur counters, the best strategy on how to defeat it, and what CPs you can get when catching a strong Venusaur.

Note: Megas are not catchable from mega raids. The following CP values are for a regular Venusaur.

Venusaur can be caught with the following CP values:

• 1480 – 1554 CP at level 20, no weather boost
• 1851 – 1943 CP at level 25 with Sunny or Cloudy weather boost

Best Mega Venusaur Raid Counters

This guide displays a list of best Mega Venusaur counters in Pokémon GO with their Fast Attacks, Charged Attacks, faints, and TTW (time to win). The below Pokémon perform best with the moves outlined below. We suggest a minimum group size of 3 – 7 Trainers to defeat Mega Venusaur in a Mega Raid.

While Shadow Pokémon are extremely expensive to power up, we have included the top Shadow Pokémon you can use against Mega Venusaur. Ensure you no longer have Frustration on these Pokémon before considering adding them to your team. If you have any of these as an option, while they may take more damage than non-shadow Pokémon, they will also deal more.

Mega Venusaur Moveset Analysis

*denotes a move only obtainable via Elite TM

• Petal Blizzard is the easiest charge move to go up against since it is a one bar move and much weaker than Solar Beam.
• Solar Beam is also a one bar move but is very strong, especially in Sunny weather. However, it is easy to dodge.
• Sludge Bomb is the most difficult by far since it is a two bar move, hits most counters neutrally and is hard to dodge.
• Vine Whip is considerably weaker than Razor Leaf, making it the easier fast move to go up against.

How to get Mega Venusaur in Pokémon GO

You cannot catch Venusaur in its mega-evolved form from the raid. The mega raid boss is always catchable in its base form and as such, the CP ranges are for a regular Venusaur.

Venusaur can be caught with the following CP values:

• 1480 – 1554 CP at level 20, no weather boost
• 1851 – 1943 CP at level 25 with Sunny or Cloudy weather boost

To get Mega Venusaur you will need to gather 200 Mega Energy to evolve your Venusaur. Once you have evolved a Venusaur you can use 40 Mega Energy to evolve it again, or you can wait for the cooldown period to end for a free Mega Evolution. There are different levels for Mega Pokémon, and the higher the level, the quicker the cooldown. Each new Mega Venusaur you evolve will cost 300 Mega Energy. You can walk any Bulbasaur, Ivysaur or Venusaur for the chance to gain Mega Energy.

Shiny Venusaur

Like all Mega Raid Bosses, you can catch the shiny version of Venusaur from a raid. The male and female Venusaur are slightly different, with the female version have a bulb on top of their flower, while the male does not.
