Pokémon Day Celebration Event 2019 Guide

Posted in

We have another short event ahead of us, with Pokémon Day 2019 event (official announcement) taking place on the 27th of February. This event marks the celebration of Pokémon itself, when the first games Red and Blue first debuted! This guide will help you get the most out of the event. Let’s start with the date and times.

Start: February 26th, 2019 at 1 PM PST.

End: February 28th, 2019 at 1 PM PST.

There are no added Stardust or XP bonuses outlined for the event, but there will be some special Pokémon available!

Pokémon

The event outlines that ‘Pokémon that players encounter early in their adventure’ will be more common. The Route 1 Pokémon in Red and Blue are exclusively Pidgey and Ratatta, and the starters are, of course, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.

Remember, all the Kanto starters can be shiny, and as of this event, Pidgey and Ratatta have joined the shiny list as well.

In field research and in the wild, there will also be special Eevee and Pikachu spawning wearing spring flowers. Finally, some other Pokémon got a special variant besides Pikachu! When evolved, the evolved forms will keep the flowers, so if you are a collector, you will want to gather as many as you can. Word says that these variants can even be found shiny. That is a lot of shiny Eeveelutions with flower crowns to collect, so good luck! We will update with the research tasks to find these Pokémon as soon as possible after the event drops.

Here is a graphic by our very own CoupleOfGaming outlining the different boosted Pokémon:

Event Focus

This event will be prime for shiny hunting, with the most common Pokémon all having a shiny form. Keep in mind that the Kanto starters have each had a Community Day, but if you had not been able to play during their individual events, and have not gotten a shiny since, now is your chance. Pidgey and Ratatta are new shinies that everyone has waited for since the game first came out, and now it is their time to shine! Eevee and Pikachu with hats are also new variants of old shinies, and are worth collecting!

For non-level 40 players, this is for you. This is a good time to gather up some Pidgey and Ratatta candy once again for a mass evolve session to get some XP. There are much better ways to get XP these days between raiding and friendship, but if you are on the final push and need just a little more, start gathering all that sweet evolve fodder.

Final Thoughts

This event does not offer much besides an assortment of some new, old, and exclusive shinies! Shiny hunters will have a blast with this short event. Do not forget to raid Latias and take advantage of your last few chances at Palkia between your avid shiny hunts, they leave on March 1st, and February 28th, respectively.
