Sinnoh Throwback Week 2020 Guide

Throwback Challenge 2020: Sinnoh is a special in-game event that celebrates Pokémon originally discovered in the Sinnoh region. The event lasts from Friday, May 22, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Friday, May 29, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. local time, and it’s a part of the greater Throwback Challenge 2020 Event. Sinnoh Throwback is the final event in the Throwback Challenge 2020 series of event and it lasts for a week.

Our Throwback Challenge Sinnoh Guide  has all the information on Sinnoh themed raids and field research, special 7 KM eggs, increased wild spawns and the Special Research quest line that rewards Grass Knot Cresselia.

Event Bonuses

  • Star pieces, Incense, and Lucky Eggs will last one hour
  • Special Research line rewarding 10 Rare candy and a Cresselia that knows Grass Knot
  • Release of shiny Glameow

Shiny Glameow and shiny Purugly release

Shiny Glameow and Purugly will become available in Pokémon GO during the Sinnoh Throwback Challenge event. These Pokémon will be available after the event ends, but you have a better chance of getting them during the event:

As is tradition, a series of Field Research tasks are available, featuring select Sinnoh Pokémon:

Sinnoh themed 7km Eggs

A large number of Sinnoh Pokémon are available in 7 KM eggs during this event, including the elusive Gible:

Out of these 10 Pokémon, Gible, Riolu, Cranidos and Shieldon would be the preferred hatch for us, but different Trainers will have different priorities.

Sinnoh Challenge Special Research


Sinnoh Throwback Special Research is a 9 part quest line that rewards an encounter with Cresselia that knows Grass Knot at the end of the quest line.

  • Catch 3 Grass, Water, or Fire-type Pokemon: 10 Pokeballs
  • Power up a Pokemon: Burmy (Sand, s)
  • Take a snapshot of a Rock-type Pokemon: 500 Stardust
  • Group encounter: Cranidos

Part 2

  • Take a snapshot of a Grass-type Pokemon: 5 Razz Berries
  • Send a gift to a friend: Combee
  • Catch a Grass-type Pokemon: 500 Stardust
  • Group encounter: Grotle

Part 3

  • Make 3 Nice Throws: Magnetic Lure Module
  • Hatch an Egg: Bronzor (s)
  • Catch a Grass-type Pokemon: 500 Stardust
  • Group encounter: Monferno

Part 4

  • Earn a candy walking with your buddy: 10 Great balls
  • Catch a Ground-type Pokemon: Skorupi (s)
  • Catch a Water-type Pokemon: 500 Stardust
  • Group encounter: Prinplup

Part 5

  • Battle another trainer: 1 Charged TM
  • Use 3 Berries to help catch Pokemon: 1 Sinnoh Stone
  • Catch a Ghost-type Pokemon: 500 Stardust
  • Group encounter: Drifloon (s)

Part 6

  • Take a snapshot of a Steel-type Pokemon: 10 Ultra balls
  • Give your buddy 3 treats: Hippopotas (s)
  • Catch a Steel-type Pokemon: 500 Stardust
  • Group encounter: Shieldon

Part 7

  • Evolve a Pokemon: Gible (s)
  • Earn a candy walking with your buddy: Glacial Lure Module
  • Catch an Ice-type Pokemon: 500 Stardust
  • Group encounter: Abomasnow

Part 8

  • Power-up Pokemon 3 times: Starpiece
  • Make 3 Great throws: Fast TM
  • Catch an Electric-type Pokemon: 500 Stardust
  • Group encounter: Shinx (s)

  • Claim reward: 3000 XP
