A Spooky Message 2019 is a Special Research quest line that rewards a Spiritomb. The Special Research was released during the Pokémon GO Halloween 2019 event, following the initial release in 2018. This guide lists all quest steps and stage requirements to complete.

Spiritomb is available as a time limited Special Research quest reward in Pokemon GO. Spiritomb Special Research quest line is named “A Spooky Message” and it is a three part research quest line that heavily draws from Spiritomb’s Pokedex entry. Two quests in the Spooky Message chain feature the number 108, as Spiritomb’s Pokedex entry says the following: “A Pokémon that was formed by 108 spirits. It is bound to a fissure in an Odd Keystone”.

More information about the Spiritomb quest

Spiritomb special research quest was initially added as a part of Pokemon GO’s Halloween 2018 event, leveraging the existing increase in Ghost and Dark type spawns in Pokemon GO. Before this event, Spiritomb was not obtainable in Pokemon GO, so Professor Willow’s appearance and a new research were received with a lot of excitement from the player base.

Arguably the most difficult part of the chain is Stage 2/3, which requires the player to spin 8 PokeStops that haven’t been visited before. In urban environments, this is not a difficult task, however in rural areas this can be quite challenging, as finding 8 PokeStops which you haven’t accidentally already spun in the past two years can be a daunting task.

Luckily, the rest of the Spiritomb quests are very easy and don’t require any particular throwing skills. Additionally, Pokemon you encounter in Field or Special research tasks can’t flee, so picking up the quest chain guarantees you will get Spiritomb eventually.

As of the of writing this guide, no major bugs were reported in regards to this particular quest chain.
