Adventure Week 2018 begins today, May 24 1:00 p.m. PST! XP Bonuses, Raid Boss shakeup, etc.

Trainers, over two weeks ago, Niantic sent out an Newsletter advertising the upcoming return of Adventure Week. Until today, no one knew when it was meant to begin. Well, rejoyce trainers as Adventure Week 2018 begins today, May 24th at 1:00 p.m. PST and runs until June 5th! For the official announcement, click here.

Here is a summary of what has been confirmed so far:

Pokémon GO Adventure Week Event
Name Adventure Week
Description Pokemon GO Rock Event
Start date May 24 1:00 P.M. PDT
End date June 5 1:00 P.M. PDT
Effects
  • Increased Rock spawns
  • Bonus XP for spinning PokéStops / Gyms
  • 10x Bonus XP for spinning new PokéStops / Gyms
  • Buddy gains Candy 4X faster
  • Rock type related Field Research Quests
  • Potential Rock type Shiny Pokémon

Considering that last year we were also provided with a clothing item and a store discount on Pokéballs, it is possible that something similar will also take place. At the very least some sort of discount in the store.

Rock-type Pokémon

During the Pokemon GO Rock Event, all Pokémon that have singular or dual Rock typing have increased spawns. That includes the rare Lileep, but also the Tyranitar family! Considering the upcoming Larvitar Community Day, we strongly suggest doing everything you can to put our hands on a good Larvitar or Pupitar and hold onto to it until June’s Community Day! This way, you will be guaranteed a good Tyranitar with Smack Down!

Raid Boss Shakeup

At the moment, only Aerodactyl has been confirmed as a returning Raid Boss, but one can expect more Rock type Pokémon to appear as Raid Bosses during the event (Aggron for example). Worry not, the Hub will provide you with updated guides for any returning and/or new Raid Bosses that might arise!

Parting Words

If you remember, Team Mystic won Adventure Week 2017. Will they be able to defend their title or will Valor/Instinct rise up to the challenge? Hopefully, Niantic continues this friendly competition with the 2018 edition!

Given the recent pattern of introducing one or two new Shiny Pokémon during events, one can also assume that the same will be done for Adventure Week. What would be your guess(es)?
