Expo 2025 Japan: AR Park?

Posted in

Osaka-Kansai Japan Expo 2025 is a new Park/Expo that showcases and highlights AR technology and diversity, both of which Pokémon GO has been able to bring to light.

Although this monumental opening is over 6 years away, it is still fun to imagine what could become of Pokémon GO when this event occurs.

But first, take a look at this promotional video:

So what can we expect? Based on the promotional video, we can see:

  • Pokémon (Of course) @0:10
  • Intersection Plazas with AR Installations – Possible Interactive Activites @0:52
  • Greeter Pokémon – Pokémon that greet you individually @1:15
  • Guide Pokémon – Pokémon that lead you to your destination@1:20
  • Security Robots – Smart Machines that can help with finding an individual @1:30
  • VR Expo – For those that cannot be there in person @1:35
  • AR Conferences – Combining AR and Human interaction @1:40

So exactly what is this? Well, from the looks of it, it’s an AR Park! The first of its kind in the entire world, although it may not be directly tied with Pokémon GO, it is clear that it does have some relation to the Pokémon Company, so we will most likely see some kind of support on Niantic’s end.

But this begs the question, will Pokémon GO continue to remain relevant for years to come? Will it still be around when this occurs? Well statistically? It will be difficult, by the year 2025 we can expect there to be a total of 9 Pokémon Generations (Generation 9 releasing in 2023 most likely), and using Community Day’s Bi-Monthly Starter appearance, this would last until January 2022, , with Generation 8 finally coming to Pokémon GO in the year 2020 (Assuming Niantic continues to release a Generation every 6-7 months).

Let’s just hope that Niantic and the Pokémon Company have something in mind to keep Trainers busy until Generation 9 appears and until this expo rolls around, as we would be highly surprised if Pokémon GO didn’t have a part to play in it.

So what do you think, Trainers? Do you expect to still be as good of a Trainer when 2025 comes around? And more importantly, would you plan on going to this AR Park? We sure hope so.

As Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe put it; “Osaka-Kansai will be a life-changing experience“.
