Trainers, attention! TheBFG_NZ is a player from New Zealand, a country where Pokémon GO’s features arrive the earliest. New Zealand’s time zone unlocks most local time based features a couple of hours ahead of the rest of the globe.

As is tradition, Throwback Challenge 2020 Special Research is now available in New Zealand, as its well pass 01:00 PM local time there, unlocking Galarian Meowth and Stunfisk.

TheBFG_NZ reported that two Galarian Pokémon have made their debut in New Zealand:

  • Galarian Meowth was spotted in the “Make 15 great throws” quest, first part of the Throwback Challenge Champion research. No wild sightings so far. It requires 50 Meowth candy to evolve into Perrserker.
  • Galarian Stunfisk is commonly encountered in the wild, and rewards regular Stunfisk candy when caught (as expected).

We’re excited to see how the rest of the Throwback Challenge 2020 Special Research plays out. We do know that the following rewards will be given out as part of this research:

  • Encounters with Galarian Meowth and Galarian Stunfisk! This will be their first appearance in Pokémon GO.
  • Research tasks that lead to encounters with Pokémon originally discovered in the Unova region, such as Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Blitzle, Audino, Darumaka, Gothita, and Genesect.
  • A chance to earn exciting rewards, including Professor Willow’s glasses as an exclusive avatar item!

Remember, in order to participate in this Special Research, you have to have a Ticket or you have to have completed all four Throwback questlines in May (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh):
