Trainers! The Pokéminers have been hard at work and have discovered that ‘tagging’ is on its way to Pokémon GO. Tagging is a brand new feature, and we aren’t sure if or when it will be implemented, but it looks like it could be a great quality of life update!

What is ‘tagging’?
Tagging is going to allow you to mark a Pokémon in a way that will make searching for specific Pokémon and groups of Pokémon much easier.
A ‘tag’ will be made up of a unique name and colour. You will be able to tag Pokémon with individual names that are created by you, but the colours will be chosen from a specific of colours in the game master file.
There is a small tag icon in the master file, that may mark a Pokémon with a tag, much like the ‘favourite’ and ‘shiny’ icons do in your Pokémon collection.
How will you be able to tag?
It looks like there are going to be several ways to create and apply a tag. Creating a tag appears to be an option via the ‘more’ menu on an individual Pokémon. From that menu you will be able to either create a new tag, or add an existing one.
When mass selecting Pokémon it appears that as well as the current transfer option, there will also be a new ‘tag’ button option. This will mean you can easily add your chosen tag to a large group of Pokémon in one go. For example, while you can search 4* to find your perfect IV Pokémon, you may also want to create a special custom tag for them that allows you to search for them via the tag ‘hundo’ for example.
It also seems that there may be a new ‘tag’ option in the Pokémon inventory screen.
You will be able to search for a specific tag to show all Pokémon tagged by a specific tag, view all the tags a Pokémon has (a Pokémon can have multiple tags), view how many Pokémon have a tag, as well as ways to edit and delete tags.

Why would you want to tag?
This potentially has a huge amount of use in the game. By being able to search for groups of Pokémon easily that you might not usually be able to search for as a group. You could add tags for specific types of raid bosses, without all the Pokémon being of the same typing. Adding a tag like ‘electric boss’ in yellow could show you all your Pokémon that have been given the specific moves needed to take down a Pokémon with electric typing, even if you choose to use a mixture of different type counters, such as Mamoswine, Rhyperior and Mewtwo (with Ice Beam).
Tags could be utilised for PVP with great effect. Rather than having to name your Pokémon something like ‘gbl’ or ‘ultra’, you can instead tag your optimised Pokémon with ‘great league’, and leave them name as their Pokémon name, or their IVs, whatever system you prefer.
You could also make personal collections of favourite Pokémon! You don’t need to necessarily be thinking about meta relevant tags, why not add fun tags so you can easily view your favourites from your collection in one go? Add a tag of ‘cutie’ to all those adorable Pokémon you keep for no reason other than that you love them. Because why the heck not?

We don’t know when or if this feature is coming anytime soon, but when it is released, it is going to be a hugely useful feature that will make organising your collection so much easier!
