Posted in

This month we opted for a fun and rather open theme, simply asking to see your large Pokémon! There are a lot of massive Pokémon, and leaving it so open always lets the creativity of our amazing AR Community shine through. With the launch of the new AR mode part way through the submission period, we knew we would get some really exciting submissions!

Next month our theme is Group Pokémon Photos using the new AR mode, submit here and check at the bottom of the article for full information.

‘Terra Prima’ by mingosanch, Kealakomo, Hawaii, USA.

‘In a place like Hawaii, it’s hard to not feel a sense of wonder when looking at the natural landscape. With so many volcanoes and grand vistas, the Big Island feels grand on a scale unlike anywhere else I’ve been. When we stopped by the side of the road in Volcanoes National Park, I naturally had to take a photo of Primal Groudon!’

‘Alolan Exeggutor’ by ACE📸, Tokyo, Japan.

‘Due to the abundance of sunlight in the Alola region, the Exeggutor that live there grow over five times taller than those in other regions.’

‘Feel the gaze.’ by nana15AR, Hiroshima City, Japan.

‘Big trees were lined up neatly. I was surprised to feel someone looking at me in a space that seemed to be surrounded by greenery!’

‘My Bewear is Bigger than yours!’ by PoGoMiloUK, United Kingdom.

‘Who doesn’t love an AR glitch? This was created using the old “buddy group” AR mode. My shiny Bewear glitched and became super sized. Certainly shadowing the little shiny Stufful next to him.’

‘By SilverBullet00, Oceanside, California, United States of America.

‘An impending Sacred Fire inbound after Ho-oh got tired of Exeggutor hogging the spotlight’

‘Party Canal’ by mingosanch, Fukuoka, Japan.

‘Fukuoka was one of the coolest cities I visited in Japan. The city really comes alive after sundown! Few things bring me as much joy as an XXL Shiny Wailord, so I wanted to get a shot of Wailord’s huge smile by the canal. Even an XXL Wailord is much smaller than it seemingly should be in Pokémon GO, so I used a perspective trick to make Wailord the huge leviathan that it deserves to be!’

‘Golurk’ by ACE📸, Tokyo, Japan.

‘Despite its large size, Golurk is capable of flying by retracting its hands into its arms and its legs and feet into its body, then taking off like a rocket at Mach speeds.’

‘Time to Depart’ by Kero Lime, Around a certain pond.

‘What would you do if you had wings on your back? Where would you go first?’

‘UB Grove’ by mingosanch, Arashiyama, Kyoto, Japan.

‘During my recent trip to Japan, we visited the famous Arashiyama bamboo grove. I’d never seen that much bamboo before in my life! Of course, that was the perfect place to take an AR shot of the Celesteela I’d caught not long before. I experimented with several different techniques and compositions, but ultimately decided that a close-up shot with bokeh was the best way to convey the size and otherworldly quality of Celesteela.’

‘Surrounded by ginkgo trees.’ by nana15AR, Hiroshima City, Japan.

‘Dragonite came across a large ginkgo tree and was delighted with its beauty.’

‘Stand off’ by phrixu, Kent, UK.

‘playing around with new AR mode!’

‘Entering the Distortion World!’ by PkmnGOMatt, Whitby, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

‘By Orpheus2810, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

‘Exeggutor is just happy to see all the greenery’

‘Lugia at dusk’ by Mark, Derbyshire, England.

‘Spotted this Lugia on the distance as I was driving home one evening. Stopped for a quick snapshot as it passed by. Majestic.’

‘World’s Edge’ by mingosanch, Ka Lae, Hawaii, USA.

‘I’ve never been somewhere as awe-inspiring as South Point in Hawaii. The huge waves, the black volcanic rocks lining the shore, and a complete absence of anything visible in the distance make you realize just how small we are in the grand scheme of things. Shiny Primal Kyogre perfectly matched how I felt standing on that shore, watching the massive waves crash upon the cooled lava.’

‘Galarian Moltres’ by ACE📸, Tokyo, Japan.

‘The sinister energy that blazes from within its body is so oppressive that most Pokémon can’t even approach it. Galarian Moltres attacks by spreading its wings wide to unleash its energy in a powerful aura that attacks the minds of its foes, inflicting deep fatigue as it burns away their energy from within.’

‘Snorlax took munchlax for a stroll around the area. Suddenly munchlax spotted some beautiful bougainvillea flowers . He wanted some for him but sadly couldn’t reach it. So ,he asked his dad snorlax to pick some flowers for him. But snorlax being the lazy dad he is,doesn’t want to jump and pluck the flowers. He is saying he is too tired from all the walking. So snorlax can be seen yawning here where as munchlax is still requesting.’

‘Snorlax asking the price of treats’ by Orpheus2810, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

‘“That’s not Groudon…”’ by @pokesnaps_by_aaron on Instagram, @aaronspokesnaps on Twitter/X, Maine, United States.

‘While sifting through some old photos, I came across this shot taken while in Maine. Looking on my screen gave me a somewhat ominous vibe. I was sitting next to a Groudon plush, and the two together made me think of the Meta Groudon from “Jirachi: Wishmaker” that terrified me as a kid. I thought “Meta Groudon isn’t in Pokemon Go or Home, but Primal Groudon is…” and the rest was photoshop history.

I like this edit, honestly. It let me experiment with shadows and the horror genre with Pokemon AR photography.’

‘Distortion’ by nana15AR, Hiroshima City, Japan.

‘I felt a new distortion. (Each Pokemon is individually photographed using AR, and produced. No processing has been added to the Pokemon’s expressions.)’

‘Big bird’ by Pokegramstm, Bishops Park, London.

‘Spotted this thing in the park. It must have come from the nearby wetlands, someone has been feeding the local wildlife some radioactive material.’

‘Hear me Roar!’ by kittypokemonsalot, Lincolnshire, UK.

‘Groudon is my favourite legendary, so I was very happy to get a good IV shadow version of it! I utilised two different techniques for this, tiny Pokémon, in order to place the Groudon in front of a small red Acer tree to use as a background, and also bokehmon, to get the background out of focus. The red of the tree felt really dramatic to me, but it needed to be out of focus to be effective.’
