Grimer and Muk wearing party hats will be available for the first time, and they can be shiny! Grimer is featured during the event due to it being the 88th Pokémon in the Pokédex.
Shiny Meltan available during the event ✨
Shiny Meltan will be available during the event, by opening your Mystery Box! We’ve included basic instructions below on how to get a Mystery Box, but check out our full guide here for more details. Shiny Meltan is only available during certain events, so this is a good time to grind for it! It can be quite tricky to spot as it darkens slightly in colour, with the golden metal area becoming more copper toned.
Why is Meltan featured during this event? It is number 808 in the Pokédex!
A Mystery Boy is obtained by sending a Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Let’s Go, Eevee! on the Nintendo Switch, or to Pokémon HOME which is available for free on your phone as an app.
Follow these simple steps to get a Mystery Box in Pokémon GO:
- Create an account on Nintendo.com. You need a Nintendo Account to use Pokémon HOME, so make sure to make one if you don’t have one already
- Download Pokémon Home from Google Play or App Store, and sign in with your Nintendo Account.
- Open Pokémon GO and go to Pokéball menu > Settings > Connected Devices and Services > Pokémon HOME and Sign in with Nintendo
- Once you sign in, you will be able to send Pokémon to Pokémon Home
- Select any Pokémon and confirm Transport. Your Pokémon will leave Pokémon GO and travel to Pokémon Home (*).
- Be sure to open Pokémon Home and receive your Pokémon. You can’t get a new Mystery Box if there’s unclaimed Pokémon.
(*) Transferring Pokémon costs transporter energy. If you are transferring Pokémon to Home for the purpose of obtaining a Mystery Box, be sure to avoid Legendary Pokémon, especially shiny Legendary Pokémon. They cost too much transporter energy.

Tickets for this Masterwork Research story will be available to purchase until Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
Ticket holders will gain access to the Masterwork Research story during the 8th Anniversary Party event. To receive the Masterwork Research, you must open Pokémon GO at some point between Friday, June 28, at 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time. After you’ve received the Masterwork Research, you can complete it at any time.
