Slashed Pokémon are one of the new anti-cheating measures deployed in June 2017, right after the release of Gym Rework.

Trainers using third party apps and services that promote cheating, violate Terms of Service or break Trainer code of conduct are flagged and their rare Pokémon become “slashed”.

The term “slashed Pokémon” comes directly from Niantic, as their reddit support staff has shared the following on this topic:

With the announcement of Raid Battles and the new battle features, we are staying true on our commitment to ensuring that Pokémon GO continues to be a fun and fair experience for all Trainers. Starting today, Pokémon caught using third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay will appear marked with a slash in the inventory and may not behave as expected. We are humbled by the excitement for all the new features we announced yesterday. This is one small part of our continued commitment to maintaining the integrity of our community and delivering an amazing Pokémon GO experience. – source

What we know about the Slash mechanism?

We have confirmed the following:

  • Slashed Pokémon can’t participate in Gym Battles
  • Slashed Pokémon can’t be deployed as Gym Defenders
  • The “Slash” is no longer removed upon evolution
  • You get no Candy for transferring Slashed Pokémon

The following apps and services are known to cause slash to appear:

  • IV Checkers that require you to enter account information
    • IV Checkers that use screenshots are safe
  • Tracking apps and websites that require you to enter account information
  • Apps that fake GPS (GPS Joystick, FlyGPS, GPSGO, etc…)

We have also confirmed that Slashed Pokémon follow the same bracket logic introduced in earlier shadowban systems. The following Pokémon are most likely to be slashed:

Evolved Pokemon, starters, Caterpie, Weedle, Spearow, Clefairy, Vulpix, Jigglypuff, Venonat, Mankey, Growlithe, Abra, Slowpoke, Shellder, Gastly, Onix, Drowzee, Voltorb, Koffing, Chansey, Tangela, Horsea, Mr. Mime, Scyther, Magmar, Lapras, Eevee, Porygon, Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl, Snorlax, Dratini, Hoothoot, Chinchou, Mareep, Sudowoodo, Aipom, Yanma, Unown, Wobbuffet, Girafarig, Shuckle, Sneasel, Teddiursa, Swinub, Remoraid, Houndour, Stantler, Larvitar – source

FSuAtl, proved otherwise on a live stream

  • Daan Smid

This really helps for those who don’t cheat!
    i like it !!

  • jstaylor62

So does using IV Go count as cheating?!?! I’m not a bot/spoofer player, but I get screwed for simply checking IVs of my Pokemon?

    • PaulKoci

If you’re not logging into the app with your PTC or Google account you should be fine.

    • Andrei Rus

yes… you can get ban if you use Iv Go.

    • Jack Mehoff

If you’re using IV Go or any of the IV calculators and using the screenshot method (and not authorizing your PoGo login) then it’s fine. But anything that requires or uses your actual account login will be flagged and result in the slashed pokemon.

    • FireWulf

If you use Google to login then you should be fine but if you use the Pokemon Trainer Club login it’s possible you will get flagged

  • ▌▌▌Last Hope ·o.

But even with that gyms are still full with spoofers… So it’s not working

  • Piet

IV go does not lead to slashed mons gor the time being.

  • Piet

Maybe he does other things besides usage of IVgo…?

  • Jack Mehoff

I don’t think the fake GPS / spoofing apps will cause you to get slashed Pokemon, because I’ll be honest in that I previously used it for a while to snipe and I don’t have any mons with slashes. Really seems to target more of the botters and people using 3rd party apps that are connected to your PoGo account.

    • Jack Mehoff

Also, I actually think the new gym system makes it easier for spoofers – because unless they had botted, they likely haven’t been affected by the slashes AND they can even more easily defend their gyms. I’m curious to hear what others think about this bc that’s what I’m seeing so far.

      • Sylvia Chochian

I agree with you, Jack. I think the anti cheating mechanisms that have been put in place are more geared at the map trackers looking to obtain rare or perfect pokemon. The way I see it, this new need to go and feed pokemon and keep their meters up is more of an inconvenience to legit players as spoofers can still spoof to the location to feed their pokemon from the comfort of their couches. IMO it defeats the purpose of this whole rework because from the vast majority of complaints, the major unhappiness with gyms was the spoofers. They made it sound like they would be reworking the gyms to prevent all that, and so far it doesn’t seem that way. What I’m getting from this, is that the slashing thing is just going to prevent them from using those high powered, illegally obtained pokemon in gyms, but it won’t stop the problem of them spoofing to locations and taking over or battling gyms as long as they use legit pokemon. I saw it in action yesterday as I was battling a gym with one pokemon in it, and after I got through the first round with that one, 2 more were added in and there was no one around me within reachable distance of the gym. And, on a side note, the whole coins system is terrible. Much more time and effort required for far less gain.

        • Jack Mehoff

I fully agree with you that this new system makes it even easier for spoofers. But the slash thing still won’t be affecting most spoofers so it’s actually done nothing to stop them. The one thing I did read is that Defender mons 3k CP and above will lose motivation at around 10% per hour versus defenders under 3k CP only losing around 1.1% per hour.

    • El Perdío

When do you get those pokemon? Apparently they´re only slashed since early April

      • Jack Mehoff

I’ve caught some since early April using Fly gps and I don’t have even one slashed Mon in my entire list of ~980.

  • Greg Kwiecien

What no iPhone that uses the built in Nav App (Hacked Pokemon Go) from Tutu? It’s mostly females that has iPhone that are doing the Spoofing and Shaving around here. We have about 5 of them that comes around the gyms at our place/area

  • DevilxDan

forget adding more updates. all niantic need to do is focus on removing spoofing from pokemon go all together.
spoofers are like team rocket lol and fsuatl is the boss… we need to get rid of them

  • DevilxDan

spoofers should have there own team lol. team rocket cos they are evil and use pokemon in a bad way

    • DishTR

I didn’t know I wanted this until I read your post.

      • Beau T Ottenbreit

        Its called valour

  • Francis Yoon

i dont understand why Niantic is so secretive about Pokemon IV. We wouldnt have to use IVGo if they gave us IV % in the first place

    • Lorddacc

Because that eliminates the “exploring” part of the game. Your point makes as much sense as “I wouldn’t have to kill him if he was already dead, it’s his fault”.

      • FireWulf

apparently you have no clue what an IV is, since you can explore the game all you want and there is no way in game to figure out the actual stats of your pokemon. You can say that the gym leaders tells you what you need to know but that’s BS cause it just tells you some cryptic saying of Oh your pokemon’s stats are impressive or some bs like that, but doesnt tell you the stats. It might give you one stat or two stats but does it give a number on those stats… Nope sure doesnt. That’s why the Appraise feature was just a waste of space, also you could say but you have your CP numbers, big deal CP is pretty useless if you have D ranked pokemon with a really high CP cause that pokemon still will suck in combat

        • Francis Yoon

to be honest, i dont think Defensive pokemon will last long in gyms because you have to constantly feed your Mons berries. My 3000cp Blissey went down to 600cp in less than 12 hours from motivation. Im not going to feed my guys 2 times a day and dont get reward coins daily.

          • FireWulf

pokemon have to come back to you for you to get coins, so if you want coins then feeding is kinda useless

          • hkmaly

            You need 2999cp Blissey.

        • Lorddacc

Yeah I play the game and have no idea of what an IV is… Funny.
Apparently you are mad at something. You can check IVs in multiple places, no need for BS apps that tell you the IVs of the Pokemon even before you catch them.

          • FireWulf

thing is IV Go doesnt tell you the IV before you catch it, you have to catch it before you get to know the IV
But then again it looks like IV Go has already updated its app to work around the new pogo update

    • Michael Maynor

IV’s aren’t as important as move sets anyway. I have an electabuz that had trash stats. However I can easily take down vaporean twice as strong with it.

    • 3xciting

You can check IVs using websites like gamepress, pokeassistant, gameinfo. It just applies a formula based on info you input (hp, cp, dust, appraisal) and gives you the IVs. This is totally legit because the formula isn’t secret and you could potentially calculate it on your own thus not violating any ToS.

If someone is stupid enough to give login info to a third party, they deserve slashed mons and more.

  • Lorddacc

    The guy/girl really loves Spearrows.
Anyway, those accounts should just be banned. It makes no difference if they get slashed Pokemon caught by cheating, when they can easily evolve and power up their legit Pokemon with candys earned through spoofing. They collected candys and stardust by spoofing, botting, etc, every level up, power up and evolution came by cheating, so get them banned, simple as that. I still don’t get how that Fsuatl or whatever his name is, didn’t get banned already, there’s video proof of him cheating. And YouTube should take his channel down, but no, instead they give copyright strikes if a fraction of a song is played lol

    • bullet135

I agree that cheaters should be banned, but Niantic doesn’t want to take the hit to the number of “active” users.

      • garyvancouver

And the number of cheating, “active” users is likely a very high percentage.

  • William O’Neal

They should make it so slashed Pokemon can’t be transferred, either.

  • Baffoun

IV Checkers Dosent make them slashed its only pokemons that are aught using third-party services, I use iv cheking website and got shadow banned some time ago but my friend that bought an lvl 34 acount has all his pokemons slashed

  • William O’Neal

They should make it so slashed Pokemon can’t be transferred.

  • Mister A

how would they find out if somebody uses Apps that fake GPS?
because you dont have to use your account information to use it

  • Nickola Telsa

Well the new gyms suck I’ll just catch Pokemon

  • Panos Kavvadas

Niantic should be fair with all countries.I live in the 3rd biggest city in Greece. The spawns in Patras r completely shitty.I don’t understand why in Las Vegas u can easily catch Blisseys while in Patras not even Chansey spawns. Not even Larvitars or Dratinis. If Niantic doesn’t wants Spoofers, they can simply make it so that there r decent spawns everywhere worldwide. So instead of banning spoofers it can try to prevent spoofing from even beggining.

    • Trancescient .

Guess what? I live in New Jersey, just minutes away from Manhattan, NYC where I do my heavy duty pokemon grinding once a month. Hardly a third-world country but I never caught a wild Chansey either, much less a Blissey. No Larvitars outside of the recent Rock Festival. And I have a less than1-in-5 chance of catching wild Dratinis with average IVs on a nearby lake. The rarest wild pokemons I caught in NYC were 2 Mareeps and that’s it. But I didn’t resort to spoofing. Instead, I relied on hatching eggs to get these powerful pokemons and even though it took me almost a year to get them, I’m glad I did. It makes me more proud of what I have obtained, however meager when compared to other places like the Santa Monica Pier.

  • Damian Donovan

I got a Slash on 2 of my pokemon but i don’t understand why. I caught them in Rome (italy) where i live, on september, i caught them legit, one gyarados (magikarp when i caught it) with 96% ivs and a dragonite encountered in the wild with really bad ivs, i didn’t use any 3rd app tracker, bot or fake gps

  • Jeremy David Smith

Feeding mons isn’t necessarily pointless. You get stardust by feeding a Pokemon berries and you need stardust to level up your mons. Stardust is always in demand!

  • Brwn

I bought a level 36 pokemon go account in sept 2016 with full gen 1 pokedex. Played it legit to 38 and this slashed update came out.
Only 3 or 4 of the “sniped” pokemon out of about 50 were flagged/slashed. Either the others have not been detected yet, or they wont ever be detected which is why i think:
All accounts with any amount of slashed pokemon should be banned in fairness to legit players.

Yeah spoofers cant use slashed pokemon, but it means you can bot an account to level 40 with 5m stardust, delete all your pokemon and start on that with no consequences.

    My two cents.

    • Brwn

      Oh and 9999+ all candies

  • Anthony Salerno

I can confirm that this article is not true I have battled gyms and raids many times with slashed Pokemon
