Niantic Presentation: What’s New for the Future of Pokémon GO takes place on Friday, June 28th at 4:15 pm (Brasilia Standard Time) at the Gamescom Latam event in São Paulo.
The announcement for this read: “Gamers from all over Latin America will be able to meet at São Paulo Expo! To celebrate the event, we are very excited to announce a very special community gathering in the Pokémon GO area at the event. Come be part of incredible activities and meet special guests! Trainers attending the event on June 28th (Friday) will be able to watch a special presentation announcing some of the main news for the game in 2024!”
Now… this seems like global news, and after a bit of digging we found the Gamescom description of the talk is as follows:
Pokémon GO: surprises awaiting brazilians in 2024!
Pokémon GO continues to bring tens of thousands of communities to parks and malls worldwide every month. This is no different in Brazil, one of Niantic’s main markets that has just received a fully locally-made film. But this is just the beginning! What awaits players here in the second half of 2024? Discover more with Alan Mandujano, Eric Araki, and Leo Wille on the gamescom latam 2024 stage!
What news might we see?
While we don’t want to raise expectations too high, it’s important to note that this presentation may not feature major announcements. Historically, significant updates are usually reserved for Pokémon Presents. However, we anticipate some exciting teasers and updates, such as:
- More Pokémon: Additional species being introduced to the game.
- In-Person Community Events: Emphasis on gatherings and events to foster community engagement.
- AR Features: Encouraging use of the newly revamped AR system in the game.
Gen 8 and Dynamax
During this talk I think we will see teasers with some simulated gameplay footage or a trailer in a similar style to the season teasers published on socials relating to a big new update. We’ve talked about how Dynamax and Gigantamax might be coming to Pokémon GO soon, it seems as though this talk comes at a perfect time to launch a teaser or confirm release dates with all of the evidence compiling recently!
I’m not going to go into details about why Dynamax and Gigantamax might be coming, I’d highly recommend reading the article I linked above – however, if it is, this could be HUGE for the latter half of 2024.
Portuguese Translation
During a keynote speech at CCXP in Mexico City on May 5, key personnel from Niantic and The Pokémon Company International announced the launch of support for Latin American Spanish as well as other updates relevant to the region, including a month-long in-game celebration across Latin America to commemorate the occasion.
This was a similar scale event to Gamescom Latam. There isn’t any evidence of Niantic having plans for Latin American Portuguese support, Gamescom Latam would be an ideal venue for such an announcement.
Brazil Regional Bonus
In a similar vein, I expect there to be a Latin American/Brazillian event, similar to what they held in May. This event could hold some cool bonuses and research!
