Today we are focusing on the infamous Darkrai ex and Weezing deck, which rose to popularity with the release of Space Time Smackdown. This deck focuses on one particular mechanic: damage over time.
As you will see in this guide, this deck needs some time to get going, but once it gets going, it is very hard to stop it. Although it cannot outperform Darkrai ex / Weavile ex decks, it is very interesting to play.
Here are all the cards you need to complete this deck:
Card not found in this set.
- This deck excels if you only pulled a Darkrai, but have a lot of older cards collected. It is very cheap to build and doesn’t rely on Space Time Smackdown cards too much
- Start by getting your Koffing/Weezing wall up, and pull with Poké Ball until you get a Darkrai EX or Druddigon
- Start building them on the bench, with a focus on Darkrai. Remember, every time you attach energy to Darkrai, it deals damage
- Darkrai’s passive damage output works great with Weezing’s poison damage, and if Druddigon becomes available, you are all set
- This is mostly a damage-over-time deck, but there is still opportunity to do damage directly at certain times
- Druddigon can be replaced with Spiritomb, and Giant Cape can be replace for something more useful
Koffing and Weezing
Koffing and Weezing are your tanks in this deck, buying you time to prepare Darkrai and/or Druddigon.
Since this deck only has 3 basic Pokémon (2x Koffing, 2x Darkrai ex, and 2x Druddigon), you have the same chance to pull any of them during your opening hand – 33%. We hope you pull a Koffing, so you can build the other ones.
If you pull a Koffing, you’re in a great spot, as you can start preparing for a Weezing pull. Attach an energy to it, get your other Koffing from the deck, and you can guarantee that the next Pokémon you will pull (via Poké Ball) is either a Druddigon or a Darkrai EX.
Darkrai EX
Darkrai will chill in the back seat for most of the fight, slowly building up to Dark Pulse, often accompanied by Druddigon.
Darkrai’s secret power is that it deals damage while chilling, dealing 20 damage every time you attach Darkness energy to it. Combine that with Weezing’s Poison passive, and we are in for a Damage-Over-Time combo.
P.S. The beauty of this deck is that it gives you a 33% chance pull Darkrai, or 50% if you already pulled all the Koffings from it.
Druddigon
Druddigon is a powerhouse on its own, especially if you combine it with the Rocky Helmet item. With no weaknesses, Druddigon can take a lot of damage and deal out even more. Yes, it takes some time to get all the correct energies, but once you do, its game over for your opponent.
Mobility Cards
Cyrus is a great card for field manipulation, and a surprisingly versatile tool, especially considering that almost all of the cards in this deck can do partial damage.
Koga is great if you need to evacuate that Weezing quickly, and Leaf is simply mandatory given the high retreat cost of Pokémon in this deck.
The rest of the cards is fairly standard support utility.
