Trainers, behold the power of Pokémon fusion! Thanks to this wondrous new power, Necrozma, the Prism Pokémon, can take on awesome alternate forms in Pokémon GO! The powerful Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma come into being by fusing Necrozma with the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo, the Sunne Pokémon, or Lunala, the Moone Pokémon, which all Trainers can do for the first time at Pokémon GO Fest 2024: Global.
Pokémon fusion is the ability to combine certain Pokémon into a single, more powerful form with an altered appearance. So far, this phenomenon has only been observed and documented with Necrozma, and it utilises Solar Fusion Energy and Lunar Fusion Energy to trigger the fusion.
Fusing Necrozma with Solgaleo and Lunala
Alongside Necrozma, Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings Necrozma can feature in 5-star raid battles, which can be completed remotely. You cannot catch Necrozma in its fused form from Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings Necrozma raids. The raid boss is always catchable in its base form as a normal Necrozma.
To fuse a Necrozma you will need the following:
- Necrozma
- Solgaleo or Lunala (depending on which fusion you are after)
- Corresponding fusion energy – rewarded upon completing a Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings raid.
- 30 Necrozma Candy
- 30 Cosmog Candy

Looking at the Necrozma Pokémon page, if you have the correct resources, you will be able to fuse your Necrozma. Fused Necrozma will remain in this form until their Trainer separates them. Separating will not cost any Fusion Energy or Pokémon Candy, but fusing them again will cost the same amount.
The fusion will take on all the stats of the Necrozma, and will not be impacted by the stats of the Solgaleo or Lunala, so we recommend using your bad IV Solgaleo and Lunala for your fusions, with good IV Necrozma.
Due to this, you’ll need to get everything you want on your Necrozma, not your Solgaleo/Lunala. Think best buddy, shiny, lucky status, special background. Solgaleo/Lunala won’t have any bearing on Necrozma’s stats when fused.
Remember, the fused forms cannot be traded, so if you want a lucky you’ll need to trade Necrozmas before fusion.
How to get Solgaleo or Lunala for Fusion
On July 14, there is a free research to get a Cosmog (which you can use it to evolve into Solgaleo/Lunala) and Global Ticket holders will get an extra research to get another Lunala or Solgaleo encounter depending the path they choose.
Once you fuse your Lunala or Solgaleo, you can’t use the Lunala or Solgaleo for anything. They’re greyed out and you will be unable to click on them (Similar to how a shiny looks if you’re trying to trade it but you’ve already reached your max for special trades).
These fused Pokémon have featured attacks! These featured attacks are also Adventure Effects.
Dusk Mane Necrozma
Necrozma fused with Solgaleo into Dusk Mane Necrozma will know the Charged Attack Sunsteel Strike.
Sunsteel Strike Steel
- Trainer Battles: 135 power
- Gyms and raids: 230 power
Trainers can now activate Sunsteel Strike’s Adventure Effect by using 3,000 Stardust and 3 Necrozma Candy, which harnesses the power of sunlight for 10 minutes. During this time, Pokémon that typically appear during daytime will be attracted to your location, similar to the effect of Incense. Pokémon that can only evolve during daytime will be able to evolve at any time while this Adventure Effect is active.
Some of the Pokémon that you may encounter include the following:
You may even encounter Rockruff that can evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc—if you’re lucky!
You can extend the timer for Sunsteel Strike’s Adventure Effect in increments of 10 minutes by using more Stardust and Necrozma Candy. The timer can be extended up to two hours each time you tap Use, and you can tap Use again to add additional time—up to 24 hours total.
Dawn Wings Necrozma
Necrozma fused with Lunala into Dawn Wings Necrozma will know the Charged Attack Moongeist Beam.
Moongeist Beam Ghost
- Trainer Battles: 135 power
- Gyms and raids: 230 power
Trainers can activate the Moongeist Beam’s Adventure Effect by using 3,000 Stardust and 3 Necrozma Candy, which harnesses the power of moonlight for 10 minutes. During this time, Pokémon that typically appear during nighttime will be attracted to your location, similar to the effect of Incense. Pokémon that can only evolve during nighttime will be able to evolve at any time while this Adventure Effect is active.
Some of the Pokémon that you may encounter include:
You may even encounter Rockruff that can evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc—if you’re lucky!
You can extend the timer for Moongeist Beam’s Adventure Effect in increments of 10 minutes by using more Stardust and Necrozma Candy. The timer can be extended up to two hours each time you tap Use, and you can tap Use again to add additional time—up to 24 hours total.
Things to Note
- You can fuse at anytime to gain the special moves as long you have enough resources to do it. These featured attacks are not only limited to GO Fest Global.
- It is highly likely Necrozma will retain the featured attack if you de-fuse it. However remember, the cost to re-fuse will not be discounted.
- These moved cannot be learnt via Elite TM or Charged TM.
- Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam cannot be active at the same time as another Adventure Effect, an Incense, a Daily Adventure Incense, the Mystery Box, or the Coin Bag.
- Re-fusing a Pokémon will be at the same cost as your first fusion. There is no discount like Mega evolutions, so we would recommend being sure you want that specific fusion to keep.
- Currently the only way to get Lunar/Solar Fusion Energy is through GO Fest 2024 special research and Dusk Mane/Dawn Wings raids. You cannot currently walk your buddy for Fusion Energy.
- It looks like the maximum fusion energy per raid is 170. With an average of around 90-110.
- The maximum amount of Fusion energy you can have is 9,999. You can still raid if you have reached the energy limit, but you will not be rewarded energy on raid completion.
- You cannot leave a fused Pokémon at a gym
- The Pokémon can be powered up after fusion (unlike Mega Pokémon).
- The Pokémon cannot be traded or transferred to Pokémon Home after fusion. To get lucky fused forms you must first obtain a lucky Necrozma, and then fuse it.
- You can have multiple fused forms in your Pokémon Storage at one time. (It works similar to Furfrou trims)
- Fused Necrozma forms take up 1 slot for Necrozma & 1 slot for Solgaleo/Lunala, in total 2 Pokémon storage slots.
- The Solgaleo/Lunala once fused will be greyed out in your storage (like on the trade screen when you hit max. special trades). This means you cannot select them to rename, change tags etc.
- There is no time limit or cooldown on fusion for Necrozma, unlike Mega Evolution, Fusion is permanent, unless you choose to un-fuse. So once you have a Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings Necrozma, it will not revert to the un-fused Pokémon unless you choose to un-fuse it. It is a permanent fusion.
- The defuse button sits front and centre of the page on Dawn Wings and Dusk Mane Necrozma. There is a second prompt to ensure you want to defuse – so you should not be able to defuse them by accident.
- You cannot use both Dawn Wings and Dusk Mane on a Master League team as they are different forms of the same Pokémon (they have the same Pokédex number). This means they do not count as 3 unique Pokémon.
