Legendary Pokémon are a group of incredibly rare and often very powerful Pokémon, generally featured prominently in the legends and myths of the Pokémon world. In Pokemon GO we can find them only at Legendary raids where they stay only for a limited amount of time.
Twelwe Legendary Pokemon were introduced thus far in Pokemon GO (as of 19th of March) with five more probably coming in near future. As Pokemon Trainers can’t put any Legendary Pokemon in a gym, they can only be used as attackers. With that in mind we will look at every Pokemon individually and see is it future proof of dust investment.

Articuno has the highest defense of all the Legendary birds, but, as we can only use Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon GO as attackers, that doesn’t work in his favor. Its mediocre Attack stat of 192 was good enough to make it one of the best Rayquaza counters. But in Gen IV Mamoswine will outperform Articuno in almost every single way which makes Articuno not future proof of stardust investment.

Zapdos has a great attack stat of 253, best of any Electric type Pokemon currently in the game, and it will stay on top until we get introduced to Gen V Legendary Pokemon. Only his moveset is what’s stopping it from being the best Electric type attacker. So for now, Raikou is a much better option duo to their movesets. If movesets get changed again, we could have another story on our hands.

Moltres also has a great attack stat of 253 and a great movesets which makes it one of the best damage dealers in the game. Definitely the most useful Legendary bird right now. But there are other great Fire options like Entei now or Heatran (Gen IV Legendary), Volcarona (Gen V) and Reshiram (Gen V Legendary) in the future. But until then, Moltres is the best fire type attacker, and one of the best overall attackers in Pokemon GO.

Even after its stats got nerfed by Niantic Mewtwo still has one of the best Attack stat in the game and it will stay that way for a very long time. It’s the best Psychic type attacker in the game and it will stay that way probably forever. And can also be used against a lot of Pokemon that do not resist his moves. So Mewtwo is definitely future proof of stardust investment and you should spent your candies and stardust on a least one good Mewtwo.
