Pokémon Spotlight Hour will feature a different Pokémon and a special bonus for one hour at 6:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday during the month of May. Abra Spotlight Hour takes place on May 14th, 2024, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm local time, with a bonus of 2x XP for evolving Pokémon.
This Spotlight Hour is the second May 2024 Pokémon spotlight. It’s a great time to evolve any trash ‘mon in your storage before you transfer them.
Trainers who plan to participate should be prepared with a Mega Pokémon to maximise candy gains per Abra caught. Here’s everything you need to know!

Abra Spotlight Hour
Bonuses
- You will get 2x XP for Evolving Pokémon
- Shiny Abra and its evolution are available in Pokémon GO
Note on XP Bonus
If you do not want to catch the featured Pokémon or do not have enough Abra candy saved, you can make use of the 2x Evolution XP bonus by evolving any saved Scatterbug, or opening a Mystery Box or Coin Bag and evolving those!
This is a great opportunity to evolve any Pokémon caught during the Rivals Week or Catching Wonders events. The old-school grinders will remember the days of saving Pidgey and other low-cost evolutions for this sort of spotlight hour, and it can be a good way to grind XP with a lucky egg on.
Looking at wild spawns from the Rivals Week event that ended last week, Ralts and Poliwag are the cheapest evolutions costing 25 Candy a pop. Sandshrew and Mankey are both fairly cheap evolutions with 50 Candy per evolution.
Kadabra is a trade evolution. This means that if you mass trade Abra with a friend during the spotlight hour, you can evolve Kadabra to Alakazam for free (no candy cost)! This means that you have the chance to get extra evo XP if you play with a friend!

Abra is a Psychic-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO, with a maximum Combat Power of 1517 CP. Abra best moveset in Pokémon GO is Zen Headbutt and Psyshock. It is weather boosted by windy weather, and it was originally found in the Kanto region. Shiny Abra is available in Pokémon GO.
Abra is weak to Bug, Dark, and Ghost moves. It takes reduced damage from Fighting and Psychic moves.

There is no gender difference in the first stage, however Kadabra and Alakazam both have gender differences. The male version has longer whiskers than its female counterpart.
This could be a pretty tricky one to spot when shiny hunting as Abra turns a slightly more pale shade of yellow. Keep your eye out, trainers!
The following Pokémon will grant you extra bonuses when catching Abra if they are Mega/Primal evolved. While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it. Mega Alakazam is the 2nd best Psychic type attacker, with regular Alakazam holding a spot at 19th (out of 79). I would hold on to some decent Abra to build for raid battle teams even if you do not have enough mega energy right now.
