App store patch notes: Lucky Friends are coming to Pokemon GO!

Posted in

Trainers, attention! A new update is available in both platform specific app stores version number 0.139.2 on Android and 1.107.2 on iOS. In a crazy turn of events, the official patch notes hint at an upcoming improvement for Pokemon GO’s Friendship system:

WHAT’S NEW

  • Trainers who are Best Friends will have a chance of becoming Lucky Friends
  • You will be able to activate stacking notification badges for the Pokémon GO app
  • Various text and bug fixes and performance updates

Screen grabs from both platforms:

It’s not yet clear what the Lucky Friends feature will entail, but given its name and scope, we expect it to boost your chances to get a lucky Pokemon while trading with a Best Friend.

This feature seems like a perfect fix for the lack of motivation that players experience once they reach Best Friends levels. Currently, there’s no reason to exchange gifts with your Best friends, and a chance to get a boost in lucky trades would be a wonderful addition.

As far as other points go, the stacking notification badge is also a welcome quality of life improvement on both platforms, but nothing groundbreaking. Performance improvements and text fixes are always welcome.

We suggest everyone to keep opening gifts with everyone, just in case this new mechanism works retroactively.
