In 2020, Pokémon GO released the GO Beyond update when the maximum level was changed from 40 to 50. Levels 41-50 introduced XP requirements increasing monumentally every level alongside challenges that ranged in difficulty and had to be completed to move on. To reach level 40 was a pure XP grind, but level 50 required so much more.
Some were fairly easy like ‘Catch 5 Legendaries’, while others not so much, like ‘Earn 35 Platinum Medals’. The PvP requirements left many trainers stuck at level 43! Others, like myself, still haven’t reached the glorious Level 50 yet. Those who have been level 50 for a while are asking for a new challenge. To some the game feels stale without anything to keep working towards outside of events, but it appears that Pokémon GO may be looking to increase the level cap soon.
Why now?
- Pokémon GO was released in 2016 with the max level of 40. 4 years later, the cap was increased to 50. And, it has been another 4 years since the level 50 cap increase.
- We’ve had many increased XP events lately, could this be Niantic preparing players for the next update?
- New medals have been added over the last few years including Vivillion, XXS, XXL and showcase medal.
What could Level 60 bring? GO Beyond 2.0?
- A higher XP requirement. My estimate is somewhere between 500 million – 1 billion.
- New medals, and a new target for existing medals. Maybe Onyx medals, or some other material like Palladium which is the most expensive of the four major precious metals.
- Harder tasks than the previous update. Win 1000 raids, hit Legend in GBL, earn a set amount of the new higher level medals in the game, etc.
- Special Pose for Levels 53, 57, and 60. Maybe the elusive Cynthia or Red pose could be introduced?
- Special researches with rare and Legendary encounters introduced for certain levels. Maybe a Shiny Unown at the end of the Level 60 research to celebrate the momentous achievement? Level 50 had a random Unown encounter, could level 60 see a guaranteed shiny random Unown encounter, or some other incredibly rare Pokémon? We’ve seen guaranteed shinies in research before so it isn’t impossible.
- Higher XP from catching Pokémon and increasing friendship levels.
- New Way of earning PokéCoins? It’s been a good while since the testing for other ways to earn PokéCoins, will we ever see it? We can but hope!
Conclusion
That’s it for me. Hope you enjoyed this little speculation. Do you want the addition of Level 60 in Pokémon GO? Let me know on social media. Goodbye trainers and until next time!
