The Crimson Blaze set (B1a) has dropped in Pokémon TCG Pocket, and since it’s a minor expansion, there are a few Trainer cards up for grabs. However, how impactful are they?
Let’s find out if the latest Trainer cards to join the fray create any tremors in battles or not!
Serena

Serena is one of the most popular characters among the Pokémon fanbase, and it’s no wonder that her Supporter card in TCG Pocket is OP. It finds a Mega Evolution Pokémon EX card from your deck and puts it into your hand, making it a compulsory addition to every Mega deck.
Most decks have only one Mega Evolution Pokémon in the mix (Pokémon, not copies, which may be two), and using Serena guarantees that you draw the desired card quickly. This is a boon for both Basic and evolvable Mega Evolutions, as these are the strongest cards in play.
As such, drawing that omnipotent Mega Charizard Y EX, fearsome Mega Gyarados EX, or terrorizing Mega Absol EX is a breeze, resulting in Serena being one of the most crucial Supporters in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
Clemont

Clemont is primarily Pokémon-specific Supporter, catering to Magneton and Heliolisk, summoning 2 cards among these and Clemont’s Backpack Item card (will come to this soon).
- It doesn’t really matter for the Genetic Apex Magneton whose job is to ramp up Energy on the Bench before having enough Energy to evolve into Magnezone and wreak havoc. The Crimson Blaze Magneton, however, deals 20 DMG for 1
Energy and also does 20 DMG to one of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon. - Heliolisk is quite strong, dishing out 120 DMG for only 2
Energy but discarding all Energy after usage.
Clemont’s gains are higher for Heliolisk, and if the other card summoned is Clemont’s Backpack, you have more to rejoice. Let’s see why in this next section!
Clemont’s Backpack

The Clemont’s Backpack Item card is an extension of the Clemont Supporter card. Whether Heliolisk or Magneton, this Item adds an additional 20 DMG. For Heliolisk, the damage figure comes to an impressive 140.
Both the Clemont Supporter and Clemont’s Backpack Item cards are extrenely niche, and won’t see too much usage.
Quick-Grow Extract

Finally, we arrive at the Item card, which received the Crown Rare status in the Crimson Blaze set, and rightfully so! It’s Quick-Grow Extract, a major boon for Stage 1 and Stage 2 Grass types in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
Basically, you pick a Pokémon that can evolve, and when you use this Item, you draw the evolved form from your deck. For context, if you have a Floragato in play, using this card brings Meowscarada to the forefront.
But the main objective of the Quick-Grow Extract is to quickly evolve Ivysaur into Mega Venusaur EX, one of the strongest Pokémon in TCG Pocket.
Ivysaur with 1
can generate 2
Energy with its non-damaging move, making it 3 Energy. In the next turn, supply the turn’s Energy to have 4
Energy, which is all Mega Venusaur EX needs to attack.
Obviously, you can’t use it on the same turn that Ivysaur is live or on your first turn to evolve a Basic Grass type.

Grass types already have some amazing Trainer cards, such as Leaf Cape and Erika, and the Quick-Grow Extract is a fantastic Item that makes this type all the more powerful. Indeed, the grass is greener on this side of the meta!
Happy collecting and battling, Pokémon TCG Pocket-ers!
