Pokémon GO Vileplume vs Bellossom: how to spend your Oddish Candy

USER GUIDE | Submitted by marcosm8 on March 14 2017

After the Poliwrath vs Politoed duel, we should have another duel, this time the turn is for Vileplume to face Bellossom. Again, we will analyze both options individually and then compare them with the current Gym meta in mind.

Do note that both Bellossom and Vileplume require 100 Oddish candy, and Bellossom needs a Sun Stone also. Keep that in mind as we compare these two contenders.

Pokémon GO Vileplume

Vileplume typing is dual (Grass and Poison) and it comes with the following stats:

# Sprite Name MAX CP ATK DEF STA
45 Vileplume grass poison 2367 202 170 150

Vileplume is a rather good attacker, but is still less powerful than other Grass Pokemon like Venusaur and Exeggutor.

Looking at all the possible Vileplume movesets, we see that you want any movesets with Petal Blizzard and Solar Beam, so the chance to get a good one is really high.

Bellossom in Pokémon GO

Bellossom typing is only Grass and if a quick glance at the stats table shows it is only better at defense:

# Sprite Name MAX CP ATK DEF STA
182 Bellossom GRASS 2108 169 189 150

However, unlike Vileplume, Bellossom can’t learn Solar Beam which is a huge disadvantage.

Leaf Blade is not really a good move, so we have less chances to get a good moveset. Here is the entire list of all possible Bellossom movesets:

Move Type Power DPS STAB DPS
Razor leaf Grass Petal blizzard Grass 13/110 27.65 34.60
Acid Poison Petal blizzard Grass 9/110 26.80 32.10
Razor leaf Grass Leaf blade Grass 13/70 21.10 26.40
Acid Poison Leaf blade Grass 9/70 20.25 23.90
Razor leaf Grass Dazzling gleam Fairy 13/100 20.80 22.45
Acid Poison Dazzling gleam Fairy 9/100 19.95 19.95

Because of it’s low CP, fairly average stats and low chances to get a good moveset, we will not see this Pokemon commonly in gyms. There are better options everywhere.

Vileplume vs Bellossom

Vileplume has better stats, higher CP, access to better moves and simply a better overall position in the meta, so the answer is pretty clear: Vileplume is much better than Bellossom in every role.

Also I have been testing both of them in gyms, and I can reaffirm the analysis done in this guide. Personally didn’t expect that Bellossom is going to be better than Vileplume, but I was surprised to see that it is not even close!

So, keep your Odish candies for evolving Gloom to Vileplume, and after seeing the GO Hub’s Sun Stone guide, it’s recommended to save your Sun Stones for future generations.
