Latios Raid Counters Guide

Latios Pokemon GO Raid

Latios is a Tier 5 Legendary Raid boss in Pokemon GO, with 52220 Raid Boss CP and Dragon and Psychic typing. Best Latios counters are strong Dragon type Pokemon. Shiny Latios is available from raids. Latios is the blue colored part of the Eon Duo. Latios’ max capture combat power is as follows:

  • 2178 CP (no weather boost, lvl 20, 100% IV)
  • 2723 CP (Windy weather, lvl 25, 100% IV)

We recommend 4 – 5 players for a solid Latios raiding experience. Latios has a number of easily exploitable weaknesses, but Latios counters fall into two categories: Latios counters vs Solar Beam (non-Tyranitar) and Latios counters vs Dragon Claw (non-Dragons).

Pokemon GO RayquazaRayquaza Dragon Tail Dragon Outrage Dragon
Rayquaza is a beast when used against Latios, as it exploits its weakness to Dragon-type attacks and deals insane amounts of damage in the shortest amount of time. Dragonite and Salamence were basically the same, just with slightly higher times and, in Salamence’s case, more faints. But now if you get yourself a Salamence with Outrage (only available during April 13th Community Day) it will be your second best Latios counter.

Excellent Latios Raid Counters
Pokemon GO GengarGengar Shadow Claw Ghost Shadow Ball Ghost
Gengar is the first non-dragon to get a mention It is a fantastic Glass Cannon pick, with either its legacy Shadow Claw fast move, or its Gengar Day Exclusive, Lick. It will faint a lot, but the damage will be worth it.

Pokemon GO MewtwoMewtwo Psycho Cut Psychic Shadow Ball Ghost
Shadow Ball Mewtwo is a worthwhile pick whenever it can dole out Super Effective damage. It faints less than a Gengar but also does not have as low of a Time-to-Win due to Psycho Cut or Confusion not being Super Effective. Additionally, it can manage with Ice Beam, but keep in mind Shadow Ball is better.
Pokemon GO MamoswineMamoswine Powder Snow Ice Avalanche Ice
Mamoswine became, hands down, the best Ice-type in the game upon its release for Community Day. It is no surprise it would show up here as one of the best counters.
Good Giratina Raid Counters
Time-to-Win rises considerably from here. These Pokémon are best kept to B-teams when weather is beneficial or when a large group is active.

Latios moves and counters breakdown

Latios is one of the more difficult fights we have ever had to write a guide about. With its dual Dragon and Psychic typing, it seemed really simple to pick counters initially, right? No, not really, as its Attack stat is devastating, its move pool is complex and your counter selection will heavily depend on the opposing Latios’ moves.

Latios has access to the following moves:

Fast Moves Charge Moves
  • Dragon Breath Dragon
  • Zen Headbutt Psychic
  • Dragon Claw Dragon
  • Psychic Psychic
  • Solar Beam Grass

The obvious choice is always to pack a Rayquaza, a Dragonite, another Latios and whatever else you have that deals a lot of DPS. Be careful not to bring a Tyranitar to a Solar Beam Latios fight, and keep in mind that Dragon type counters will take super-effective damage if the opposing Latios has Dragon Breath and/or Dragon Claw.
