Pokémon GO City Safari: Best Possible Future Locations

Niantic recently announced 3 new events called ‘City Safari‘ which are ticketed events around popular cities that enable trainers to catch new shinies and complete research. On different weekends in October and November, the locations are Seoul, Barcelona, Mexico City and Tainan which debut Skiddo and an Explorer Hat Eevee.

This got me thinking about different locations that would be suitable to host City Safari events in future, and with the help of trainers, I made the following list.

Sydney or Melbourne, Australia

Australia is a very safe and large country in the Southern Hemisphere which already has a lot of established communities around its major cities, particularly Sydney and Melbourne. Australia itself has never hosted a Pokémon GO Live event before but would be a great place to, and a City Safari event would enable trainers to visit locations citywide like the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Melbourne Cricket Ground and more.

Live events commonly feature locations where you can meet “notable trainers” which would also be easy to organise due to the large number of content creators in Australia, notably ZoeTwoDots, FleeceKing, ProPlanty and more.

Paris, France

Paris is already a trendy tourist destination, so I’m sure many trainers would travel out to play a City Safari and see the Eiffel Tower. With regionals such as Klefki and La Reine Furfrou, there are also many rare Pokémon that could be featured.

San Diego, San Francisco, Orlando or New York City, USA

A large amount of Pokémon GO’s player base is in the United States so hosting a City Safari would just make sense. There were lots of locations in the US recommended by trainers but the main four were San Diego, Orlando, San Francisco and New York City

Previous events here have also worked with Live events having been hosted in Las Vegas, New York, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Los Angeles and Seattle. San Diego, Orlando, San Francisco & New York City all have many notable landmarks that trainers could visit with the City Safari format such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Balboa Park, Central Park, Times Square, HollywoodUniversal Studios and more.

“Orlando FL! Great tourist locations, tons of hotels, large active community, and lots of large parks to play safely!” – @drizzyigottem via twitter (x)

Tokyo, Japan

Japan is an amazing place for everything to do with Pokémon and the GO Community is very strong over there. Tokyo would be a great place to host a City Safari because there is already thousands of PokeStops and trainers in the area. Trainers looking to travel could also visit many locations such as Tokyo Tower, Shinjuku and the Pokémon Centre. It is also worth mentioning that Japan has hosted countless successful Pokémon GO events in the past too, with Live events previously in Yokohama, Sapporo, Osaka, Okinawa, Yokosuka, Tottori and various other ‘Special Weekend’ events around the country.

Sao Paulo, Brazil

Sao Paulo has quite a large established Pokémon GO Community and would be a great location. Considering that South America hasn’t received a Live Event before, it would be something new and exciting for players in that continent. In 2023, Niantic announced and successfully hosted “Pokémon GO Fest 2023: Global Meetup in São Paulo“, so the location planning has previously been done, which would make a City Safari event easier to coordinate.

Monterrey, Mexico

Mexico has a large Pokémon GO Community and has been a hotspot for Live events in Pokémon GO, particularly with the sponsorship of 7-Eleven. Monterrey is a popular city that is already an established location for Pokémon GO events, with it having a GO Tour: Kanto Live event in February 2022. This previous event was quite successful, so bringing another event there with a City Safari style would be a good idea so trainers can explore even more of the city. However, Mexico City will already be having a Live event in Mexico City, so another one in Monterrey may be unlikely.
