Whenever the shadow variant of a Pokémon listed below is available in the game, it is strongly recommended to use it over its regular/purified counterpart. However, since Shadow Pokémon are extremely expensive to power up and require specific events to TM away Frustration, they will NOT be listed as raid counters in this article.
Alolan Grimer doesn’t have many weaknesses, but if you don’t have ANY of the Pokémon listed above powered up, you can always use:
- “Generalist” Pokémon
- Eevolutions
- Other heavy-hitting megas
But please, try to use the Pokémon listed above if possible.

Believe it or not, both Alolan Grimer and Alolan Muk can be used in PvP. Dark + Poison is a fantastic defensive typing, which help them stand out as great safe swaps to use in the current meta and some restricted formats.
If you want to use Alolan Grimer in Great League, keep in mind that you will need to fully XL it, so it is quite an expensive investment. Is it worth spending that much on A-Grimer tho? That’s up for debate. Poison Jab, Crunch and Sludge Bomb is probably the best moveset, although Gunk Shot as a nuke move instead of Sludge Bomb is a nice surprise that can flip some matchups.
Alolan Muk on the other hand is a much cheaper investment with great versatility. You can run it with Poison Jab if you want a bit more fast move pressure or with Snarl if you prefer higher energy generation. Dark Pulse + Sludge Wave is usually the preferred moveset, but you could always run it with Acid Spray if you want to have a bait move or with Gunk Shot if you’d rather have a move to nuke your opponents instead.
We hope you found this raid guide useful, happy hunting!
