As part of the Secrets of the Jungle event, Larvitar will be available in raids as a Tier 1 raid boss in Pokémon GO. It can be shiny, but is a full odds shiny, so a trickier hunt.
Larvitar can be caught with the following CP values:
- 548 – 594 CP at Level 20, no weather boost
- 686 – 743 CP at Level 25 with Sunny or Partly Cloudy weather boost
It is a Rock & Ground type, which makes it weak to Fighting, Ground, Ice, Steel, Grass (2x) and Water (2x) type moves. The easiest way to take it down is by using grass or water type moves, due to its double weakness to them.
Larvitar Raid Counters
Whenever the shadow variant of a Pokémon listed below is available in the game, it is strongly recommended to use it over its regular/purified counterpart. However, since Shadow Pokémon are extremely expensive to power up and require specific events to TM away Frustration, they will NOT be listed as raid counters in this article.

Larvitar has so many weaknesses that the list could go on forever. If you don’t have any of the Pokémon listed above powered up, you can always use:
- Vaporeon, Clawitzer or Crawdaunt with water type movesets
- Exeggutor or Leafeon with grass type movesets
- Good fighting, ground, ice and steel type attackers, but keep in mind that they will perform significantly worse since they aren’t taking advantage of Larvitar’s double weakness to water & grass type attacks
In short, use one of the viable Water or Grass type attackers and it shouldn’t take you more than 10 seconds to finish the raid.
