Marill Raid Guide

Artwork of Marill from Pokémon GO Marill

Marill is available in raids as a Tier 1 raid boss in Pokémon GO, and it can be caught with the following CP values:

  • 229 – 263 CP at Level 20, no weather boost
  • 287 – 329 CP at Level 25 with Rainy or Cloudy weather boost

It is a Water & Fairy type, which makes it weak against Grass Electric and Poison type moves. It is available as a full odds shiny.

Marill Raid Counters

Marill best raid counters are listed below:

Whenever the shadow variant of a Pokémon listed below is available in the game, it is strongly recommended to use it over its regular/purified counterpart. However, since Shadow Pokémon are extremely expensive to power up and require specific events to TM away Frustration, they will NOT be listed as raid counters in this article.

Marill has plenty of weaknesses so the list could go on forever. If you don’t have any of the Pokémon listed above powered up, you can always use:

  • Generalist” Pokémon such as Mewtwo
  • Any powerful Mega Pokémon
  • Any powerful Legendary Pokémon you caught with neutral coverage (as long as it’s not Rock, Ground, or Fire)

Marill shouldn’t take more than a couple of seconds to beat if you’re using the right counters, but don’t worry too much if you don’t have strong attackers powered up.

  • Body Slam Normal
  • Aqua Tail Water

Marill is a decent option to consider in Little Cup, but functions a little different than its evolution Azumarill. It has stellar bulk and great moves (Bubble, Aqua Tail, and Body Slam) but it is outclassed in the limited meta so far, since Ducklett has been the defining Water-type Pokémon of the Element Cup. It is also hard to power-up since it will require XL candy to even come close to max. Marill does have the potential to be good someday, but for now, it’s hard to recommend it.

Azumarill on the other hand is one of the best Pokémon in Great League, thanks to its bulk and great Charge Moves. While it has since fallen off from grace with the rise of Nidoqueen and Registeel learning Zap Cannon, Azumarill is still a great choice. It is very hard to pick Charge Moves for this Pokémon since all of them are great. Ice Beam cover Grass and Flying, Hydro Pump covers Registeel and G. Stunfisk, while Play Rough is more consistent against Dark and Fighting types. Like Marill, Azumarill with great PvP IVs would need XL Candies, but a raid-caught one should reach 1500 without the need for XL.
