Galarian Pokémon Stats and Moves Added to Pokémon GO

Posted in

Hey trainers, new Pokemon forms from the Galar region are being added into GO! Galarian Meowth, Zigzagoon, Darumaka, and Stunfisk will be hatching in 7km eggs and Galarian Stunfisk will also be in raids during the Throwback Challenge Celebration from June 3rd, 1pm local time.

Galarian Meowth and Stunfisk will also be a reward for the special research if you either completed all 4 regional researches, or buy the event ticket. Galarian Meowth and Zigzagoon will be able to evolve into their Gen 8 evolutions, Perrserker and Obstagoon.

Without further ado, let’s see how the new Pokémon look like and feel like.

With that said, let’s get into it!

Galarian Linoone

Model Fast Moves Charge Moves
  • Snarl
  • Lick
  • Dig
  • Body Slam
  • Gunk Shot
  • Stats: 142 Attack, 128 Defence, 186 Stamina
  • Type: Normal / Dark
  • Weaknesses: Bug Fairy Fighting x2
  • Resistances: Dark Psychic x2 Ghost x2
  • Max CP: 1662

Galarian Linoone has significant potential in great league, with the massively high EPS Snarl and the low cost Body Slam making an oppressive combination. Dig seems like the best coverage, as it’ll demolish common steels like Registeel and Bastiodon that’ll wall it out normally, but a case could be made for Gunk Shot as well, as a surprise for fairy types (though charm would melt Linoone, so maybe just fire off a body slam or 2 while you can).

Hoenn Linoone has seen some niche use, so Galarian Linoone’s stats, which are identical, are a bit on the frail side. The type change, however, is quite drastic, as it gains many resistances as well as weaknesses. It’s heavily resistant to Ghost and Psychic and picks up a Dark resistance, but it gains a weakness to Bug and Fairy, and a heavy Fighting weakness. With Charmers, Moonblast Cresselia, Play Rough Azumarill and basically anything with Counter being threats, it makes Galarian Linoone quite team dependant. But, if you put in work, it’ll be a fine addition to most teams.

Galarian Darmanitan

Model Fast Moves Charge Moves
  • Tackle
  • Ice Fang
  • Overheat
  • Avalanche
  • Superpower
  • Ice Punch
  • Stats: 263 Attack, 114 Defence, 233 Stamina
  • Type: Ice
  • Weaknesses: Fighting Rock Steel Fire
  • Resistances: Ice
  • Max CP: 3105

They really went and gave it the best possible ice moveset, huh.

Galarian Darmanitan is, in terms of DPS, the best non shadow Ice type raid Pokemon available, dethroning Mamoswine. It’s an absolute powerhouse, flat out.

For PvP you could try the using Ice Punch with Superpower as coverage for steel, but it’s defence and typing are pitiful. It’s a raidmon, through and through.

It’s Zen Mode self, which probably won’t be released for a while, will beat it out, and become the best ice raider including shadows. But until then, regular’s fine, and will put in work against Pokemon like Zekrom, Rayquaza if it comes back, and the therian Forces of Nature trio in the future.

Galarian Stunfisk

Model Fast Moves Charge Moves
  • Mud Shot
  • Metal Claw
  • Earthquake
  • Muddy Water
  • Flash Cannon
  • Rock Slide
  • Stats: 144 Attack, 171 Defence, 240 Stamina
  • Type: Steel/Ground
  • Weaknesses: Fighting Ground Fire Water
  • Resistances: Normal Flying Bug Steel Psychic Dragon Fairy Rockx2 Electricx2 Poisonx2
  • Max CP: 2162

That’s a lot of resistances! Unovan Stunfisk was already notoriously bulky, so resisting over half of all types is quite a big deal.

Fortunately for Galarian Stunfisk, it retains that notorious bulk, with a set of moves that’ll make it feared in the great league meta. Rock slide will make Altaria cry, and it can eat a Focus Blast from Registeel and one shot it with Earthquake. Of course, any water type will hurt it, like Azumarill and any “mudboi” such as Whiscash, as well as Fighting types such as Scrafty and Toxicroak, so it’s not without counters, and it’s STAB options are slow. It’s not to be underestimated, as it can wall an entire unprepared team and demolish them.

Muddy Water’s a fair option to bait out Earthquake and deal hefty damage to attacking ground types, and Flash Cannon sure is a move, but Rock Slide’s infamous damage and low cost and Earthquake’s monstrous one-shot potential are the go-to picks. Galarian Stunfisk is sure to be a PvP menace, and it’s one of the more available Galarian forms since it’ll be in raids and the wild as well as 7km eggs.

Galarian Meowth

Model Fast Moves Charge Moves
  • Scratch
  • Metal Claw
  • Night Slash
  • Gyro Ball
  • Dig
  • Stats: 137 Stamina, 115 Attack, 92 Defence

Not much to say about Galarian Meowth’s meta role, it’s basically a reskin of Meowth.

Galarian Farfetch’d

Model Fast Moves Charge Moves
  • Rock Smash
  • Fury Cutter
  • Brick Break
  • Brave Bird
  • Leaf Blade
  • Stats: 141 Stamina, 174 Attack, 114 Defence

Galarian Farfetch’d is also in there, but we’re waiting for Sirfetch’d for the real game changer.

Obstagoon

Model Fast Moves Charge Moves
pokemon_icon_862_31.png
  • Counter
  • Lick
  • Cross Chop
  • Night Slash
  • Hyper Beam
  • Gunk Shot
  • Stats: 212 Stamina, 180 Attack, 194 Defence
  • Type: Normal / Dark
  • Weaknesses: Bug Fairy Fighting x2
  • Resistances: Dark Psychic x2 Ghost x2
  • Max CP: 2652

It’s not the worst moveset, I mean nobody complains about Counter, but the lack of a dark STAB fast, especially Snarl, seems odd. Aside from that, it’s moves are serviceable. It’s got a ton of spam potential, with both Cross Chop and Night Slash being nicely low cost. Gunk Shot is a bit too slow to consider, but it can work if you bait it, and Hyper Beam is Hyper Beam.

It’s got a very solid niche in Ultra league, with Cross Chop applying fast damage to main threats like Registeel, and Night Slash being it’s primary STAB and go-to move because of the respectable damage and major attack buff chance. It’ll also deal with Giratina excellently, as well as Cresselia and Armoured Mewtwo, but be careful about them.

It can trade Counter for Lick to deal heavy fast attack damage to Pokemon that otherwise would shrug off it’s Counters, namely Giratina.

Perrserker

Model Fast Moves Charge Moves
pokemon_icon_863_31.png
  • Metal Claw
  • Shadow Claw
  • Close Combat
  • Play Rough
  • Foul Play
  • Iron Head
  • Stats: 172 Stamina, 195 Attack, 162 Defence
  • Type: Steel
  • Weaknesses: Fighting Ground Fire
  • Resistances: Normal Flying Rock Bug Steel Grass Psychic Ice Dragon Fairy
  • Max CP: 2386

Wow.  Perrserker was blessed with some pretty awesome moves.  Shadow Claw is an excellent fast move, Close Combat, Play Rough and Foul Play are all solid charge moves as well.  Play rough would give it coverage against Fighting-types, and Close Combat and Play Rough are solid options as well. In Ultra, it has Play Rough to deal with Giratina and fighters, Foul Play to deal with Cresselia, Giratina and Armoured Mewtwo, Close Combat for Registeel, Lapras and Snorlax (and obstagoon), and Iron Head for Articuno and fairies. The main problem is it can only use 2 of them, so tailor it to your team.

Perrserker maxes out at 2386 CP. It’s a decent CP for Ultra League, and it could very well be a threat in the Great League as well.

Sirfetch’d

Model Fast Moves Charge Moves
  • Counter
  • Fury Cutter
  • Close Combat
  • Brave Bird
  • Leaf Blade
  • Night Slash
  • Stats: 158 Stamina, 248 Attack, 176 Defence
  • Type: Fighting
  • Weaknesses: Flying Psychic Fairy
  • Resistances: Rock Bug Dark
  • Max CP: 2985

At first glance, Sirfetch’d seems like it’s too frail for PvP. It’s movepool’s excellent, with Counter and a strong array of fast strong charge moves, such as leaf blade. It could put in work, but definitely not in great league, since it’d be made of glass there.

Sirfetch’d has a monster attack stat, and while that may be a detriment in PvP, it does fine for raids. However, Close Combat is a ball and chain attached to it’s ankle that keeps it from soaring: It’s just kinda okay. Similar DPS to Hariyama, so nothing special. It does have potential to get Meteor Assault, and exclusive move that mirrors Hyper Beam and the starter’s exclusive moves, which are practically always good. But until then, it’s mediocre.

I enjoy drinking coffee and going for walks if I can muster the energy. I mostly spend time shiny hunting in mainline Pokémon games. My favourite Pokémon is Falinks, and I'm still in disbelief that it was added to GO like a year or two early. Empoleon is a close second, though.
