Pokémon GO’s latest season is called Timeless Travels, and with the current information that we hold, it is a love letter to the Hisui region, the region where the Pokémon Legends: Arceus game takes place. From the name onwards, this Season’s theme is time, time travel, and stories from the past.
Luckily for us, Niantic shared a teaser video alongside the Season announcement, openly teasing some upcoming features, Pokémon, and content we can look forward to. Let’s take a look at the new trailer.
New Trailer
New Hisuian Pokémon
Right off the bat, we see Hisuian Typhlosion, Hisuian Decidueye, and Hisuian Samurott. Out of these new Pokémon, we know that Hisuian Samurott is getting a Raid Day, so we believe these Pokémon are more or less confirmed to be coming out during this Season. Hisuian Samurott is a Water and Dark type, Hisuian Decidueye is a Grass and Fighting type, and Hisuian Typhlosion is a Ghost and Fire type. In Legends Arceus they all evolve from their original starter Pokémon, with only the final evolution being a Hisuian version.
Wyrdeer also makes an appearance later in the trailer, making it 4 new confirmed Pokémon from the Hisui region! Wyrdeer is a new evolution for Stantler, and is a Normal and Psychic type. In the main series it evolves from Stantler after using Psyshield Bash in the agile style at least 20 times. This sort of mechanism doesn’t exist in GO, so it will be interesting to see if we can evolve our Stantler in another way, or if it will be raid limited.
New Pikachu costume and Shadow Ho-Oh return
It’s been a while since we saw Shadow Ho-Oh, but after recently seeing Shadow Lugia return for a special raid event, it seems likely we could see the same for Shadow Ho-Oh, with their shiny form being released. This season has potential to be quite raid heavy it seems!
An exciting appearance for costume Pokémon fans, Cosplay Pikachu appears, in their ‘clever’ costume, as Pikachu Ph.D. There have been only two forms of Cosplay Pikachu not yet released, and Ph.DChu would mean only the ‘beautiful’ form Pikachu Belle remains unreleased. With a focus on time travel and history, the Season of Timeless Travels really suits the release of Ph.DChu!
Origin Dialga and Palkia Formes for GO Tour 2024?
The last few years of Pokémon GO events have brought with them Kanto, Johto and Hoenn Tour in the early part of the year, if 2024 follows that pattern, then 2024 is time for Sinnoh Tour! The Hisui region is an ancient form of the Sinnoh region, which would tie in perfectly for the theme of the Season.
The Hisui region has their own forms of Dialga and Palkia, known as their Origin Formes. Both of the Origin Formes are considered the ‘true’ forms of Dialga and Palkia. Interestingly the silhouettes shown in the trailer are for the ordinary forms of Dialga and Palkia, but this could be to try to throw us off the scent and not make the release of the Origin Formes known too early.
Could we see these two Legendary Pokémon debut for GO Tour in 2024? Hoenn Tour saw the debut of Primal Groudon and Kyogre, which proved incredibly popular, and having alternative formes of Dialga and Palkia who are already much loved, would be a hit. Especially if their shinies were released!
We’ve discussed some of the issues with the potential for Sinnoh Tour before, and bringing Hisuian Pokémon into the Tour would make it a lot more exciting and give plenty of new Pokémon, and shiny potential.
New NPC related to Routes?
A brand new NPC (non playable character) is shown in what appears to be something related to the Routes system. Their hat has a measuring tape around it, which could tie in with route creation and walking. They have a Foongus on their shoulder, and appear to be carrying a Pokedéx, or computer of some kind. Their clothing is quite wintery, with gloves, a jacket, jumper, boots and a scarf, fitting with the snowy background shown in the video, and the arrival of winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
There is the potential that this is Professor Laventon of the Hisui region, as their facial hair and stature are similar, but their clothing is very different from what they wear in the game. They could be a new character like Rhi, who talks us through Routes and their creation, or someone entirely different!
Conclusion
The Season of Timeless Travels looks to be an intriguing one, focusing on the Hisui region, and taking us across time and space. Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduced us to Hisui and the Hisuian forms, and the final boss in this game is none other than Arceus themselves. Will the Season of Timeless Travels and GO Tour 2024 lead us to the most epic of confrontations with the Original One, the Alpha Pokémon, the creator of Sinnoh, shaper of worlds, Arceus?
This is of course, all wild speculation… but wouldn’t it just make sense?!
