Pokémon World Championships 2025: GO Day 1 Highlights

Good day, Pokémon Trainers! The Pokémon GO World Championships are in full swing. This means trainers around the world are bringing their A-game in order to secure the title of “World Champion”. However, trainers will have to go through a gauntlet of other trainers for three whole days for this prestigious title. What this means is 3 days of intense competition, 3 days of hype matches, and 3 days of trainers putting everything on the line, making every prediction and every catch to get an inch closer to victory!

And that’s where I come in. Whether you’ve missed some of the key matches or want to relive some of the best moments, I’ll be bringing you some of the highlights of each day and providing a brief description and analysis for each. With that explanation out of the way, let’s begin with the highlights of Day 1!

Strong Early Start

Just the second match of the day, yet trainers are already bringing their A-game. The first match between GordonTheFlash and Jjan was down to the wire, but Azumarill’s bulk came in clutch.

Who’s That Trainer?

Sejun Park is a familiar name in VGC, most famous for winning the 2014 World Championship with a Pachirisu. And this trainer cannot seem to be unable to bring some surprise to the stage, as now he is playing in GO and frankly doing fantastic at all.

However, Sejun is not the star of this story as Ashtonash ultimately took the win with his Runerigus; nevertheless an absolutely nail-biting set of battles from these two trainers.

1 HP and A Dream

Playing at such a high level at such a fast-paced meta means things can get to the absolute wire. No better example of this than P4tom4n, barely hanging on with Golisopod to get the final victory.

C-c-combo!

Speaking of high-level play, woolfpack shows a masterclass of that here, moving Pokémon around left and right to get the win.

Jjan brings the hype

It seems any match with Jjan brings excitement. While he isn’t the one winning, he really brought out his opponent’s (and his opponent’s Azumarill’s) max potential here.

Match Flipped

To finish off, it seemed Jinz was on the back foot the entire time, but here’s an example of how the tempo of a match can change at any time because Pokémon GO is a game about both skill and strategy.

Conclusion

The World Championship is here, it is happening! And it has brought some amazing battles on day 1. What I’ve covered here is merely a snippet of all the amazing trainers pouring their all both on and off stream. If I were to put my personal remark for day 1, I would say the keyword is Level.

High-level plays are to be expected in the World Championships, but this year’s meta just seems to leave no room for mistakes. Every trainer needs to play perfectly to inch out a win. There were so many highlights to choose from, but I had to really shorten it to these few. I cannot wait for day 2, see you tomorrow!

Goodbye for now, Pokémon trainers. Priom-out!
