Hey Trainers!

We have just received another trailer for the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero! The second part of the DLC, titled The Indigo Disk, is scheduled to be released on December 14, so this will be the final update before the DLC is playable! The trailer can be watched on the Pokémon Company’s official YouTube channel here:

There’s a lot to unpack, so let’s get right into it!

This article may contain some spoilers for the main Scarlet and Violet story, as well as the first DLC story for The Teal Mask

Explore Deeper Into Area Zero!

Towards the end of your journey through Scarlet and Violet’s storyline, you explore into the depths of the crater in the center of the Paldea region known as Aera Zero. Throughout your travels into the crater, you will encounter strange Pokémon from the past/present, and at the bottom of the crater you will discover the Zero Lab, where Professor Sada/Turo has built a time machine. Throughout the caverns in the lower part of the crater, you will encounter gigantic crystalline formations. These crystals power the Terastal Phenomenon, the ability to change a Pokémon’s type mid-battle.

While Scarlet and Violet’s main story would have you believe that we have explored Area Zero to its fullest, the newest Indigo Disk trailer says otherwise! These screenshots from the trailer have shown us that there are more levels to the crater that we will gain access to through the events of the DLC story. They show the main character traveling down a tunnel of Tera Crystals to a cavern below, where a massive tree made of Tera Crystals has laid hidden. Could this be where we encounter the new Legendary Pokémon Terapagos? Only time will tell!

The Synchro Machine

The trailer announced a new feature that will be made available in the new DLC: The Synchro Machine.

While not much is known about this feature currently, we do know that it is a special machine that will allow you to sync up with your Pokémon, allowing you to control them for a short period of time!

This feature will be available through an NPC named Synclaire. You will need to assist her in her research before you’re able to try out this new feature.

Not much else is known about this feature, but it should be an exciting new way to play with your partner Pokémon.

Upgraded Koraidon/Miraidon Flight

Early trailers revealed that, for the first time, we would be able to fly around with our ride Pokémon! While this was exciting at the time, it was explained that a special supplement would be given to the ride Pokémon to be able to participate in minigames in the Terarium of Blueberry Academy.

Many fans were wondering whether this ability of flight would be outside of the Terarium. It seems as though we have just received confirmation that it will. The above screenshot from the trailer shows the main character flying over Paldea! On the left side you see the Asado Desert, and on the right you see Casseroya Lake, two landmarks of the Paldea region!

It’s unclear as to how or when this ability will be unlocked, but this will make traversal around the region even easier!

Return of the Paldean Gym Leaders

It was previously announced that we would be able to interact with Gym Leaders from the Paldea Region throughout your time at Blueberry Academy. Details on these interactions were not revealed until today.

It was revealed in the trailer that, after interacting with the Gym Leaders for a certain amount of time, we will be able to trade Pokémon with them! The trailer shows the player trading with the Electric Gym Leader Iono, in which they receive a Magnemite. This Magnemite has a special Ribbon that will demonstrate that it was previously owned by a Gym Leader!

These traded Gym Leader Pokémon will likely be fun new collectors’ items with the new update. If they can by shiny hunted, then that will add an extra layer of intrigue!

Return of the Legends

And now for what was probably the biggest reveal of the trailer: Legendary Pokémon from previous games will be making their return in the Indigo Disk DLC!

If you played the Sword and Shield DLC, this likely wasn’t a huge surprise. Previous Legendaries have been returning in main line games since Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and these titles have proven no different!

The Legendaries will not simply be available to be caught, however. Legendary Pokémon can only be encountered after receiving Snacks from an NPC named Snackworth. In order to do so, you must complete Blueberry Quests in order to receive Blueberry Points. It can be assumed that these Blueberry Points will be exchanged for Snacks. From here, you will be able to travel back to Paldea, where the Legendary Pokémon will be able to be encountered.

We’ll learn more once the DLC is released. However, we do have the official list of returning Legendary Pokémon. Let’s take a look!

As you can see, there are some powerhouses returning in this update! It should be noted that there will likely be version exclusives. It is unclear how they will be divided up, but in the past two instances where past Legendaries were available en masse, Game Freak chose to divide them up the same way. Only time can tell how/if they will be divided for this release!

As a side note, one other non-Legendary evolutionary line was also revealed in the trailer: Joltik and Galvantula. They will join the roster of returning Pokémon in the DLC.

Conclusion

That pretty much wraps up the new information revealed in the trailer. Let us know if we missed anything! Otherwise, we’ll be looking forward to the DLC update on December 14th!
