For the first time ever, Shiny Volcanion is available to obtain in the Pokémon games main series!
The Pokédexes of Pokémon Legends: Z-A now hold a special reward in Pokémon HOME! If you complete your Lumiose Pokédex, Mega Evolution Pokédex, and Hyperspace Pokédex in Pokémon HOME, you’ll receive a Shiny Volcanion. Shiny Volcanion will know four powerful moves: Steam Eruption, Flare Blitz, Hydro Pump, and Heavy Slam.
To receive this special Volcanion, you must complete the three Pokédexes in Pokémon HOME, then confirm your completion in the Games tab. If you’ve already completed these Pokédexes, you’re still eligible to receive this Pokémon. Be aware that to receive Mystery Gifts, you must have a linked Nintendo Account, and each Mystery Gift can only be received once per Nintendo Account.
Shiny Volcanion is an incredible shiny, becoming a bright golden colour, making it very striking! With pink accents, it is going to be a very popular shiny, especially because it has never been able to be legally obtained before now. Volcanion also has a totally unique typing of Fire and Water.

News like this may seem irrelevant to Pokémon GO players, but it isn’t! Mythical Pokémon have been available in their shiny forms as rewards for completing special research stories, including Mew, Celebi, Meloetta, Shaymin, Keldeo and Jirachi, with many trainers currently working their way through the Sparkle and Shine special research to obtain Shiny Diancie. Darkrai, Genesect and Deoxys have all been available as shiny in raids, with Meltan available shiny from Mystery Boxes. So why does this matter for Pokémon GO players? Because a shiny must have been available in the main series, before we can potentially obtain it in Pokémon GO (barring the odd exception like Meltan and Castform). This means that we may now see an event or special research line that allows us to obtain our very own Shiny Volcanion in Pokémon GO in the future!
Is Volcanion any good in Pokémon GO?
