Pokémon HOME: Exclusive Shiny Distributions

Pokémon HOME has become the quintessential tool for Pokémon players to really live up to the original “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” motto. But never has it been more prevalent than the exclusive release of shiny Pokémon, some of which haven’t been made available for over a decade!

As of January 28th 2025, three shiny distributions have been made available to trainers who complete game specific Pokémon HOME Pokédex as detailed below:

Shiny Meloetta

Shiny Aria Meloetta Shiny Pirouette Meloetta

To change Meloetta’s form, it must use the move Relic Song in battle.

Meloetta is a Gen 5 Mythical Pokémon and was first released via special in person distribution events across Japan in November of 2012 as part a tie in to the fifteenth Pokémon movie, Kyurem VS. The Sword of Justice (translated Japanese title). It has since had multiple in person and online distribution events, but the shiny version has never been released. Even with it’s inclusion in the Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, as part of an Easter Egg style encounter, it has been impossible to legitimately obtain a shiny Meloetta.

This changed on October 18th 2024 when a Pokémon HOME distribution was announced for the shiny form of Meloetta. This exclusive Mythical would be given to all players with a Pokémon HOME account that have completed the Paldea, Kitakami and Blueberry Academy Pokédex within Pokémon HOME, all of which can be completed through transferring Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet including the DLC. The Paldea dex includes the 400 Pokemon from the base Scarlet and Violet games, the Kitakami dex is 200 Pokémon featuring those in The Teal Mask DLC, while the Blueberry dex is 240 Pokémon as part of The Indigo Disk DLC. The two DLC dex include repeated Pokémon from other in game regions, for example a Fletchling from Blueberry Academy will also register the Fletchling entry for the Paldea dex.

What makes shiny Meloetta notable for Pokémon GO, is that following the Pokémon HOME distribution, it was later announced that shiny Meloetta would be available as the final reward to the Masterworks Research launched in line with the Unova Tour.

Shiny Enamorus

Enamorus Incarnate Forme Enamorus Therian Forme

To change Enamorus’ form, you must use the item ‘Reveal Glass’ in a supported game.

Introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus in 2022, Enamorus is a Legendary Pokémon and in lore, the master of the Forces of Nature trio, Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus. As such, it can only be obtained after catching these three genies, and the shiny version is not available. The only other instance of Enamorus being available to date was a special Valentine’s Day Elite Raid event in Pokémon GO on February 14th, 2024. It is due to make a return to Pokémon GO raids from the 6th to 17th of February 2025. However, its shiny has not been advertised as available during this time.

The first shiny distribution for Enamorus was launched on January 28th 2025 for Pokémon HOME. Similarly to Meloetta, this requires players to complete the Pokémon HOME Pokédex for the Hisui region by depositing those Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The Hisui dex includes all 242 Pokémon from Pokémon Legends: Arceus, including all of the Mythical Pokémon that can be obtained.

Shiny Manaphy

Shiny Manaphy Shiny Phione

Manaphy has been available in its shiny form since its first release in Japan in September of 2006. However, it has an extremely long winded way to obtain it requiring at least two different Pokémon games and Nintendo DS consoles. The reason for this is that you require a Manaphy egg, which can only be generated once per game cartridge upon completing Pokémon Ranger. This egg then needs to be transferred to a copy of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl or Platinum before it can be hatched where it has a slim chance of being shiny. Because the shiny is determined when the egg hatches depending on the unique Trainer ID, players then restart their console without saving, and then trade the egg to another copy of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl or Platinum to try hatching, resetting the game data on the original game to generate a new ID. There are entire guides on completing this, with some dedicated fans spending years trying to accomplish this.

Manaphy is a “2 for 1” in terms of gaining Mythical Pokémon, as it is the only Mythical that can breed. The resulting egg will allows hatch a Phione, which has never been shiny locked, following the same shiny odds as any other Pokémon hatched from eggs. Phione cannot evolve into Manaphy though.

As of January 28th 2025, Manaphy has received a Pokémon HOME distribution for any player that completed the Sinnoh Pokédex by depositing all of the Pokémon for it from the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl games. The Sinnoh dex includes 150 Pokémon, which does not include any Mythical Pokémon or those only featured in the Grand Underground.

Manaphy and Phione have yet to make their debut in Pokémon GO.

Shiny Meltan

Shiny Meltan

Meltan remains one of the strangest entries in the Pokémon universe to date. Making its first appearance after Pokémon GO Community Day in September 2018, all of the Meltan caught during this small window turned into Ditto. Just days later, Meltan was officially revealed and became a tie-in between Pokémon GO and Pokémon Let’s GO: Pikachu and Let’s GO: Eevee. Pokemon GO players have been able to encounter Meltan regularly through the use of the Mystery Box, and has had its shiny version available multiple times through specific Pokémon GO events.

This distribution, starting on February 12th 2025, is the first instance of shiny Meltan being available without the requirement of catching one in Pokémon GO to transfer into Pokémon HOME. Instead, you can receive one after completing the Kanto Pokédex in HOME, by transferring the 150 original Kanto Pokémon from either of the two Let’s GO games.

Shiny Keldeo

Shiny Ordinary Keldeo Shiny Resolute Keldeo

Keldeo marks another first for Pokémon HOME. Just like Meloetta, it was first announced and made available through events for Pokémon Black and White in September of 2012, but its shiny version has not been made available until February 12th 2025. In games, Keldeo changes into its Resolute form when it knows the signature move Sacred Sword. Keldeo is available to catch through a side story track in Pokémon Sword and Shield, as part of the Crown Tundra DLC, though its shiny here is locked.

In order to receive a shiny Keldeo, you must complete the Galar, Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra Pokédexes in Pokémon HOME. All of the Pokemon needed to complete these must originate from the Pokémon Sword and Shield games.

Hints to Complete the Pokédex

  • Although Pokémon HOME registers the Pokémon that originated from the specific games, they do not need to be directly deposited yourself. Be sure to use the Pokémon HOME GTS to fill missing gaps, and Wonder Box to organically get some Pokémon registered through trading.
  • If starting from scratch, Pokémon Legends: Arceus might be the easiest to complete, as all required Pokémon are available in the one game without the need to trade.
  • When a Pokemon is hatched in a certain game, that is listed as its origin game. So transferring a Shieldon caught in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, then breeding it in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and hatching the resulting egg, will register it in the Sinnoh dex. This is extremely useful for registering missing version exclusives or rare Pokémon like the starters, providing they can breed.
  • Be wary when trading Legendary or event only Pokémon with strangers through Pokémon HOME, there is unfortunately a high possibility the Pokémon they offer you was created via illegitimate means.
  • Making a tick list of the Pokémon needed is going to be much faster than checking your Dex completion in HOME each time. You will know when you have completed one of the Pokédex when you receive this crown symbol next to it.

Best of luck completing these Trainer!

Hey, I'm Tudor. I've been an avid Pokémon fan since the European release of Pokémon Red and Blue, I chose Blue. From there my love of the franchise grew when Gold and Silver were released, and I was introduced to my favourite Pokémon, Sneasel! In GO, I'm a die hard team Mystic player and enjoy completing various collections such as the lucky dex and getting hundo Mega evolutions. Across all Pokémon games I'm a bit of a casual shiny hunter.
