The Pokémon GO Lunar New Year event is happening once again, featuring various red Pokémon, some lucky bonuses, and, in celebration of the Year of the Ox, Timed Research featuring Tauros, the Wild Bull Pokémon! Plus, Gyarados will be able to Mega Evolve for the first time in Pokémon GO. Are you red-y? Take a look at the details below.

Features
Red Pokémon Spawns
Red Pokémon will be spawning in the wild, including Krabby, Goldeen, Magmar, Magikarp, Miltank, Meditite, Tepig, and more. If you’re lucky, you might spot a Gyarados in the wild. Will you be lucky enough to encounter the coveted red Shiny Gyarados? Yes, wild shiny Gyarados is back!
Event-exclusive Field Research Tasks
There will be event exclusive field research tasks that will reward encounters with Meowth, Alolan Meowth, Galarian Meowth, Meditite, and Miltank.
5KM Event Eggs
Pokémon representing animals associated with Lunar New Year will be hatching from 5 km Eggs! Keep an eye out for Rattata, Ekans, Mankey, Ponyta, Mareep, Houndour, Miltank, Torchic, Bagon, Buneary, Tepig, and Litleo.
Raids
The following Pokémon will be appearing in raids.
One Star Raids
Meditite, Carvanha, Duskull, Skorupi, and Darumaka will be appearing in one-star raids.
Three Star Raids
Miltank, Octillery, Blaziken, Camerupt, and Absol will be appearing in three-star raids.
Five Star Raids
Latios and Latias will be appearing in five-star raids from Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. local time.
Mega Raids
Mega Pidgeot, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Ampharos will be appearing in Mega Raids from Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. local time. This will be Mega Gyarados’s debut in Pokémon GO!
Mega Gyarados is a huge fan favourite, so we are so excited to see it released as the surprise Mega that was teased last month!

Tauros
In celebration of the Year of the Ox, Tauros, the Wild Bull Pokémon, will be featured in Timed Research! Tauros is a regional exclusive Pokémon, so this is a great chance to get your hands on one, with shiny potential too!

Bonuses
Gifts
Gifts will contain more Poké Balls, so be sure to send lots of Gifts to your friends. This is a great chance to make sure you are stocked up ready for the Kanto Tour event! Many of us are in some form of lockdown, so try to send out gifts to those friends you know can’t leave the house safely.
Lucky Friends
You’re more likely to become Lucky Friends with your friends, so be sure to swap Gifts, battle in raids, and trade with them! Remember, currently we can open 35 gifts per day, so that is a lot of opportunities for lucky friends, even if you don’t wish to use remote raid passes or are too far away to trade.
Random Lucky Pokémon Increase
When you trade a Pokémon (to a friend you are not lucky with), it’ll be more likely to become a Lucky Pokémon. This is a great opportunity to work on those lucky dex additions!
Trading Range Increase
Trading range will be temporarily increased to 40 km from Monday, February 8, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, February 15, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. PST(GMT −8).
Conclusion
This looks like such a great event, with a lot of great bonuses on top of fun spawns, raids, and the opportunity to get a wild shiny Gyarados never goes amiss! The Lunar New Year Event is a regular event in Pokémon GO, and this looks set to be the best one yet!
