Cresselia is a Tier 5 Legendary Raid Boss in Pokemon GO (33794 Combat Power). Best Cresselia counters are strong Ghost and Dark-type users like Mega Beedril, Mewtwo, Tyranitar, but also strong Bug-types like Scizor and Pinsir. Cresselia is weak to Bug, Dark and Ghost moves. Cresselia can have the following CP values when caught in the post-raid capture encounter:

  • 1555 – 1633 CP in normal weather conditions
  • 1944 – 2041 CP  in Windy weather

Cresselia can theoretically be duoed by 2 level 40 trainers running teams of Mega Beedril / and SC Gengars with Fog weather and best friend boosts. Realistically 3-5 high-level players can tackle a Cresselia with proper counters, and 6-20 lower level players can handle one.

Cresselia counters

The following Pokemon are considered to be best Cresselia raid counters in Pokemon GO.

Cresselia raid counters
Supreme Cresselia raid counters
Beedrill (Mega) Bug Bite Bug X-Scissor Bug
Mega Beedrill, as of now is the strongest counter in the game against Cresellia (until the release of Mega Houndoom). Although Mega Beedrill is glassy, its whopping Attack stat of 303 shreds any sort of defence Cresellia has while having access to double Bug type moves.
Giratina (Origin) Shadow Claw Ghost Shadow Ball Ghost
Origin Form Giratina is an amazing counter when it comes to fighting Cresselia. Sporting significantly less TTW than other Supreme Counters, and having the bulk to be able to not die every 10 seconds like Gengar, make it the weapon of choice.
Mewtwo (Shadow) Confusion Psychic Shadow Ball Ghost
Our all-time favourite is back with a vengeance. The release of Shadow Mewtwo for Pokémon GO Fest 2020 was a game-changer, it reigns supreme in Cresselia match ups. Faster than a Tyranitar, but a lot more potion conservative than a Gengar, Mewtwo is simply the perfect mix of DPS and TDO in Cresselia raids.
Charizard (Mega Y) Fire Spin Fire Blast Burn Fire
Mega Charizard Y does exceptionally well against Cresellia primarily due to its insane neutral damage output. Its 319 attack stat shows while versing any raid boss, Cresellia being a prime example. Its Max CP of 4455 allows it to be able to stay in battle for longer dealing massive amounts of damage.
Excellent Cresselia raid counters
Tyranitar Bite Dark Crunch Dark
Tyranitar (and its Shadow form) is a beast versus every Psychic Pokemon, Cresselia included. Your sturdy companion will bite through Cresselia with ease, saving potions and performing equally well as an SB Mewtwo. What a champ!
Weavile (Shadow) Feint Attack Dark Foul Play Dark
Shadow Weavile is another glass cannon option versus Cresselia. It has the 3rd fastest time to take down Cresellia and performs well against most move sets.
Gengar Shadow Claw/Lick Ghost Shadow Ball Ghost
Gengar has one of the fastest and highest DPS against Cresselia, but it is incredibly fragile and will faint more than twice the number of times either Mewtwo or Tyranitar faint. Gengar will be a favourite option for players who want to do the raid as quickly as possible.
Pinsir (Shadow) Fury Cutter Bug X Scissor Bug
It’s a worse Scizor, which means it’s good, but not that good.
Scizor (Shadow) Fury Cutter Bug X Scissor Bug
Scizor can hold it’s own versus Cresselia, regardless of the move set you face.
Good Cresselia raid counters

Cresselia moves analysis

Fast Charge
  • Psycho Cut Psychic
  • Confusion Psychic
  • Futuresight Psychic
  • Moonblast Fairy
  • Aurora Beam Ice
  • Futuresight is a scary move, but not against Dark-types. Tyranitar performs marvelously against Cresselia’s Futuresight, shedding off its attacks with ease. A respectable move, that completely destroys Gengar.
  • Moonblast is a strong Fairy-type move that deals increased damage to Tyranitar, but nothing groundbreaking, but still hard hitting
  • Aurora Beam can be confusing, but fear not, as it doesn’t deal increased damage to Mewtwo, Tyranitar, Gengar, Scizor nor Weavile. One of, if not the, easiest move set to fight against.

Weather Effects

Cresselia is boosted by Windy weather, while being more vulnerable in Fog and Rainy weather.
