This article aims to explain which Pokemon are worth keeping hold of for the future and which just aren’t worth your precious storage space.
In the current Meta, it does feel like only a certain handful of Pokemon are relevant But there is some hope on the horizon for some of these Pokemon.
The below chart is taken from our article on Gen 1,2 & 3 Pokemon that evolve in Gen 4 here. This shows the best Pokemon to be keeping a hold of for future evolutions.

Meta Relevance
The Pokemon that stand out as the heavy-hitters of this Gen are the Ground & Rock type Rhyperior, the Grass type Tangrowth, the Ice type Glaceon (whose evolution method is widely speculated,) the & Fairy type Togekiss, Bug & type Yanmega, Weavile the Dark & Ice type, Mamoswine the Ice & Ground type, Gallade the Psychic & Fighting type and Roserade the Poison & Grass type.
Rhyperior is expected to be a stronger version of Rhydon. He has higher attack, defense and stamina and access to strong Ground & Rock type moves making him lethal to any future or Fire type raid bosses.
Gallade has an interesting typing of Psychic & Fighting making him super-effective against a wide range of types. He also boasts decent attack and defense stats.
The above Pokemon all have fairly high CP (especially Rhyperior,) and should make the families involved Meta-relevant again. We see this in the case of Weavile, Mamoswine and Glaceon gaining some strong Ice types and with Roserade and Tangrowth bringing the Grass type into the fold.
The curious case of Glaceon & Leafeon
In the main Pokemon games, the player needed to level up an Eevee near a certain rock in order to achieve its newest two evolutions. However, this isn’t something that we feel could be implemented in Pokemon Go and instead think that Niantic may opt to encourage evolution of an Eevee in certain weather conditions instead Snow or Sunny.
A Pokemon to really save candies for
There is one Pokemon that is coming up in Gen 4 that you will really want to save yo your candies for Togekiss. This Pokemon is unique in that it needs Togepi candies in order to evolve Togetic, however, these candies can only be obtained by hatching Tokepi from 2Km eggs. It is a rare hatch as that. The only only other way to obtain candies would be to use precious Rare candy from raids or try to track down and catch the ever elusive Togetic (which was hailed as one of the hardest Pokemon to catch in the game so far.)
Overall Verdict
Overall however there will be an abundance of strong Pokemon coming up when Gen 4 launches. We suspect that this will be towards the end of 2018 and would urge you to keep a certain amount of candies on standby for once they are available.
