Pokémon World Championships 2024: GO Championship Sunday Highlights

Good day, Pokémon Trainers! The Pokémon GO World Championships are in full swing. This means trainers around the world are bringing their A-game in order to secure the title of “World Champion”. Though trainers will have to go through a gauntlet of other trainers for three whole days for this prestigious title. What this means is 3 days of intense competition, 3 days of hype matches, and 3 days of trainers putting everything on the line making every prediction and every catch to get an inch closer to victory!

And that’s where I come in. Whether you’ve missed some of the key matches or want to relive some of the best moments, I’ll be bringing you some of the highlights of each day and providing a brief description and analysis for each. But now we’re at the end of the road, the Grand Finals!

Starting With An Iconic Move

I’m being completely serious here. This might be the best way to start off the Grand Finals. As many may already know from the TV show, Ash Ketchum sliding his cap backward before doing something important is iconic. So yekai0904 doing the same at the start of the finals sends a strong message. “I am a champion in the making!”

A Strong First Battle

As Yekai0904 is coming from the winners’ side of the bracket he has the momentum going into the best of five grand finals. And it seems he’s more than eager to keep the momentum going by bringing the perfect backline and putting his Skarmory against Inadequance’s Wigglytuff.

It’s Also About The Pilot

It’s not just about the ship, it’s also about the pilot. You don’t reach the grand finals on the world championships unless your mechanical understanding and skills are to the point. And one again, Yekai0904 shows how it’s done with a perfectly timed catch on Inadequance’s charged attack.

Inadequance Fights Back

The game is far from over yet. Inadequance is no stranger to having his back against the corner. At this point, twice he has found his Wigglytuff paired against Yekai0904’s Skarmory. But he remained undeterred. Bringing Wigglytuff once again for a battle victory.

The Perfect Bookend

2024 may have just been Lickitung’s story. It was prevalent all throughout the 2024 season. It had the highest usage on both day 1 and day 2 of the tournament. And now it was here one last time to completely wall Inadequance’s signature Pokémon, the pure ghost-type move running Giratina. Congratulations Yekai, on the back of your humble lickitung, you are now the World Champion!

Closing Remarks

Each day of the tournament I’ve been trying to find a word to best describe each day of the tournament. On the final day, I think it has to be Legacy!

Lickitung representing the legacy of the GO circuit. As it always had a place in PvP and came to the forefront in 2024. Inadequance representing a personal legacy of the 2024 championships. Coming so close to winning it all with the Giratina, Wigglytuff core that won him the Utrecht Championship this season.

And of course, there’s Yekai0904. Sliding his cap back like Ash Ketchum. Being inspired by a trainer from the first-ever official Pokémon GO Championship series. Having an underperforming season. And winning it all in 2024. Yekai represents the legacy of the spirit of competition and the spirit of Pokémon in general. What a fantastic season with equally fantastic trainers! Let’s see what season 4 of the official circuit brings!

Goodbye for now, Pokémon trainers. Priom-out!
