Similar to the anime and main series games, Pokémon GO has a special method to evolve Eevee into any desired evolution form, also called Eevolution, a blend of Pokémon’s name and the word evolution.

The trick is accomplished by giving Eevee a specific nickname before evolving it. This guide contains a list of all Eevee evolution names, and also a detailed overview of how to regularly evolve Eevee into a desired form.

  • You can name your Eevee using the nicknames from the table below, spend 25 Candy to evolve, and you have a guaranteed Eeveelution.
  • This trick works only once per evolution, so be sure you are using it for a particularly good Eevee and its evolution counterpart.
  • Once you’ve used the Eevee naming trick for a particular Eeveelution, you will have to evolve using regular in-game mechanisms, which are listed throughout this article.

Note that the name trick can be used only once per evolution, so it is highly recommended that you thoroughly plan before doing so. This applies to all available Eevolutions currently in the game.

How to evolve Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon in Pokémon GO

Eevee evolution trick
Eevee brothers

Getting Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon is easy – these forms do not require any special conditions to obtain. However, they are random evolutions, which can make them frustrating, especially if trying to evolve shiny forms. Each time you evolve an Eevee from your Pokémon Storage, the game will check whether or not any other form can be evolved into, and if not, that Eevee will evolve into Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon.

Evolving an Eevee will always produce either Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon at random if none of the evolution conditions for other Eevee forms have been met. It costs 25 Candy, and it does not matter whether the naming trick has already been used or not.

You can also use the Eevee naming trick to get one of these Pokémon once per nickname.

How to evolve Espeon and Umbreon in Pokémon GO

Umbreon and Espeon

You can evolve Espeon and Umbreon by using the Eevee name trick (Sakura for Espeon, Tamao for Umbreon) or by walking 10 KMs with Eevee as your Buddy and evolving it during a specific time of day. Espeon likes daylight, and Umbreon likes nighttime.

Use Day and Night to evolve Espeon and Umbreon

To get Espeon and Umbreon, do the following steps with your Eevee:

  1. Set the Eevee you wish to evolve as your Buddy
  2. Walk at least 10 km with Eevee (which also earns you 2 Eevee Candies with your Buddy)
  3. Evolve the Eevee while it’s your Buddy
  4. Evolving an Eevee during daytime will give you Espeon
  5. Evolving an Eevee during nighttime will give you Umbreon

Eevee must be set as a Buddy before the evolution. After making sure all criteria are met, evolving during the day will get the trainer a Psychic type Espeon, while Dark type Umbreon will make its appearance at nighttime in the Pokémon GO app.

Since the day and night are determined by local time, a GPS signal is also required otherwise, the evolution will be random. None of the Pokémon that require a special item or task to evolve spawn in the wild, including both Espeon and Umbreon.

This evolution method can be used repeatedly, and it is the only way to obtain one of these Pokémon.

How to evolve Leafeon and Glaceon in Pokémon GO

Leafeon and Glaceon

You can get Leafeon and Glaceon by using the Eevee names method (Linnea for Leafeon, Rea for Glaceon), or by evolving your Eevee under a specific Lure:

Sprite of Eevee from Pokémon GO Eevee Mossy Lure icon 1× Mossy Lure Sprite of Leafeon from Pokémon GO Leafeon
Sprite of Eevee from Pokémon GO Eevee Glacial Lure icon 1× Glacial Lure Sprite of Glaceon from Pokémon GO Glaceon
  • Evolve under a Mossy Lure to get Leafeon
  • Evolve under a Glacial Lure to get Glaceon

How to evolve Sylveon in Pokémon GO

Sylveon

You can get Sylveon by using 25 Candies and earning 70 Hearts when Eevee is your Buddy Pokémon. If you have enough Candy and Hearts acquired, a silhouette of Sylveon will show up, and you will be able to evolve into Sylveon.

Eevee Evolution Summary & Best Practices

We hope you enjoyed our comprehensive guide to evolving Eevee in Pokémon GO, outlining methods for each specific evolution. Here’s a quick summary:

  1. Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon are random evolutions, with no special conditions required. An Eevee will evolve into one of these forms if none of the conditions for other evolutions have been met. Each evolution costs 25 Candy.
  2. Espeon and Umbreon can be obtained by walking 10km with Eevee as your Buddy and evolving it during the day (for Espeon) or night (for Umbreon). This is determined by local time, and GPS signal is required.
  3. Leafeon and Glaceon are obtained by evolving your Eevee under a Mossy Lure (for Leafeon) and a Glacial Lure (for Glaceon).
  4. Sylveon can be obtained by earning 70 Hearts with Eevee as your Buddy Pokémon and spending 25 Candy.
  5. The naming trick, which involves giving Eevee a specific nickname before evolving it, can also be used. The specific names are Rainer for Vaporeon, Sparky for Jolteon, Pyro for Flareon, Sakura for Espeon, Tamao for Umbreon, Linnea for Leafeon, Rea for Glaceon, and Kira for Sylveon. However, this trick can only be used once for each evolution.
  6. If your evolution requirements have been met, you will see the button for the Eeveelution appear as an option on the Eevee, showing its silhouette.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to know if you have already used a certain nickname to evolve an Eevee previously?

You can easily find out if you’ve already used a nickname to evolve an Eevee by following these steps:

  1. Change your Eevee’s nickname to the one you want to test out
  2. If the corresponding Eeveelution’s silhouette appears in the Evolve button, you have not used the nickname before. If there’s no silhouette, the nickname trick for this Eeveelution has already been used.
Does the nickname trick for Leafeon/Glaceon require their respective Lure Module?

No, if the nickname trick for Leafeon/Glaceon is being used for the first time, the respective silhouette will appear in the Evolve button regardless of whether you’re near a PokéStop with a Mossy/Glacial Lure

I accidentally changed my Buddy from Eevee to something else. Will all progress be lost for its evolution to Espeon/Umbreon/Sylveon?

No, your progress made with Eevee as your Buddy is documented, and it will not be lost. What’s important is having Eevee as your current Buddy while fulfilling the evolution requirements for Espeon/Umbreon/Sylveon. In other words:

  • Have Eevee as your Buddy after you have completed walking 10 km with it and are evolving it during the day to get Espeon
  • Have Eevee as your Buddy after you have completed walking 10 km with it and are evolving it during the night to get Umbreon
  • Have Eevee as your Buddy after you have completed 70 hearts and are evolving it to get Sylveon
I have completed all evolution requirements to evolve my Eevee. Why is the Evolve button not responding?

For any Eeveelution, aside from completing their respective evolution requirements, you also need to ensure you have 25 Candies collected

Does the Rainy Lure Module help evolve Eevee into Vaporeon?

No, none of the Gen 1 Eeveelutions will ever require a Lure Module for evolution. Unlike the Mossy and Glacial Lure Modules, the Rainy and, by extension, the Magnetic Lure Modules aren’t associated with any Eeveelutions

I’m unsure about the daytime and nighttime hours for my Eevee’s evolution. How do I ensure I get Espeon/Umbreon?

Don’t worry, all you have to do is have a look at the silhouette in the Evolve button, as it will clearly indicate whether you will get Espeon or Umbreon at that exact moment.

Can I evolve my Costume Eevee?

Costume Eevee can be evolved only if the Evolve button is visible. If there’s no Evolve button on a certain Costume Eevee’s screen, it cannot be evolved into any of the Eeveelutions

Will my Shiny Eevee evolve into the Shiny version of its Eeveelution?

Yes, all Shiny Eeveelutions are available in Pokémon go, so as long as you have fulfilled the required evolution conditions, you will get the Shiny version of that corresponding Eeveelution
