As part of the 9th anniversary celebration shiny Gimmighoul debuts, and a special Gimmighoul holding a 9th anniversary coin spawns, which can also have the celebration catch background!
The catch background is not guaranteed, and this special Gimmighoul cannot evolve.
New to the Coin Bag? Let’s break it down.

The Coin Bag is an item in Pokémon GO that allows players to access the 999th and 1000th Pokémon, Gimmighoul and Gholdengo.
The Coin Bag can only be obtained by connecting your Pokémon GO game to the Nintendo Switch titles, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. To receive the special Coin Bag, you need to send a Postcard from Pokémon GO to Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
When you open the Coin Bag, you receive a special bonus: for 30 minutes (or longer during special bonuses), you will have the chance to find and catch the Coin Hunter Pokémon, Gimmighoul. On average, one Gimmighoul will spawn every 1.5 minutes.
Once the 30 minutes are up, Gimmighoul will stop appearing in the wild. However, you can reopen the Coin Bag after waiting 1 day. After this time, send another Postcard to Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, and you’ll be able to open the Coin Bag again.
- To connect your Pokémon Scarlet and Violet game to Pokémon GO you need Pokémon GO and your Nintendo Switch game open
- On your phone, within Pokémon GO settings, go to Connected devices > Nintendo Switch and click Connect to Nintendo Switch
- On your switch, go to the mystery gift option in the PokePortal, then go to Connect to Pokémon Go and then click Pair with a Pokémon GO account
- Follow the prompts on screen. Both devices should search, find your account and connect
- Once paired, go to your items in Pokémon GO, open your postcard book, pick a postcard, click the three lines at the bottom of the screen and click ‘send to Nintendo Switch‘
- On your Switch, click ‘Connect to Pokémon GO’ and the two devices will pair again
- The postcard will then send to your Switch, and in return the Coin Bag will be delivered to your item storage in Pokémon GO
- You can then use the Coin Bag to get Gimmighoul to spawn in GO. Once successfully paired, you will be able to repeat the process from the postcard sending stage!
Tips & Tricks
- You can send a Postcard only once per day. Your ability to send a Postcard resets at midnight.
- The first time you send a Postcard, you will receive the Coin Bag and be able to use it.
- Once you send another Postcard, you will be able to use the Coin Bag again.
- The Postcards you send will remain in your Postcard Book, but each Postcard can only be sent once.
- If you do not have a Switch console or Scarlet/Violet, you could ask a friend to help out.
The event Gimmighoul CANNOT evolve. However, you can evolve regular Gimmighoul into Gholdengo.

999 Gimmighoul Coins |

Gholdengo is the evolution of Gimmighoul. It can only evolve from Gimmighoul in Pokémon GO by using 999 Gimmighoul Coins. This means you need to utilise the Coin Bag repeatedly in order to capture enough Gimmighoul to evolve it into Gholdengo.
To get Gimmighoul Coins, you will need to catch Gimmighoul, but you can also get them for spinning golden PokéStops that have had Golden Lure Modules activated on them, or by adventuring with Gimmighoul as your buddy.
You can obtain Golden Lure Modules by sending multiple Postcards to Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet.*
Golden Lure Modules turn PokéStops into Golden PokéStops. You can give them a spin for the chance to collect Gimmighoul Coins! In addition, it seems that you can get more items from Golden PokéStops than from regular PokéStops, and extremely fortunate Trainers may even encounter Roaming Form Gimmighoul!
