The Scattered to the Winds event in Pokémon GO has trainers on their toes since the two-day extravaganza is all set to debut shiny Scatterbug in the game!
Running from February 18 to February 20, 2025, you can open more Gifts each day and enjoy high odds of encountering the shiny version of Scatterbug. If you’re really lucky, you can catch a bunch of them from different postcards worldwide and get shinies of the various Vivillion patterns.
As one of the most sought-after Pokémon in the game, you must be feeling a little anxious about how you can catch ’em all!
Fret not, as we have built this comprehensive guide to help you get the job done, thanks to a post by user ‘Speedster-12’ on the /r/TheSilphRoad subreddit.
So, we will break down all the details, and by the end of it, rest assured that you’ll be completely prepared to grind the Scattered to the Winds event! Let’s begin.

You can collect patterned Vivillon from all over the world by pinning Postcards received from Gifts sent by your in-game friends from different parts of the world.
You’ll need:
- 3 Postcards for your first Scatterbug encounter.
- 9 Postcards for your second Scatterbug encounter.
- 15 Postcards for all future Scatterbug encounters.
Pinning Postcards from eligible regions unlocks the Vivillon Collector medal and adds progress to sub-medals associated with the Postcard’s region of origin.
Progressing on sub-medals leads to encounters with Scatterbug. Scatterbug from different regions evolve into Vivillon with different patterns!
Here are the requirements for evolving Scatterbug into Spewpa, and then into Vivillon:
Pokémon | Requirement | Evolution |
---|---|---|

25 Candy |

100 Candy |

- You can use 25 Scatterbug Candy to evolve Scatterbug into Spewpa.
- You can use 100 Scatterbug Candy to evolve Spewpa into Vivillon.
Important takeaways
- You need 2,250 Candies to get each Vivillon pattern.
- If you’re using Pinap Berries and also transferring Scatterbug for 1 Candy obtained from each, you’ll need at least 322 successful catches. Remember that a Scatterbug encounter is not a guaranteed catch, and it can flee.
There are 20 Vivillon patterns in total, but two of them are reserved for special event distribution, or at least that’s what was the case in the main series games. These two are Fancy and Pokéball patterns and are marked with italic font in the table below.

Here are some tried and tested ways that you can use to get more Candies for multiple Vivillon evolutions:
- The traditional catch (preferably with Pinap Berries) and transfer method. Easy 7 Candies.
- Keep a Bug-type Mega Evolution (of Mega level 3) active. This can be any Mega out of Beedrill, Pinsir, Scizor, Heracross, or even Primal Kyogre. Expect 1-2 Candies depending on the Mega level, and even higher with Pinap Berries.
- Trade Pokémon of more than or equal to 100km in distance. This way, you’ll earn up to 3 Candies (lesser for lower distance) for each trade.
- Set any Pokémon from the Scatterbug line as your Buddy and start walking to earn 1 Candy for every 1km walked. With a Poffin, you can get 1 Candy for just 0.5km.
- When evolving a desired (shiny and/or preferred IV: 100 IV is 211 CP) Scatterbug to Spewpa, or Spewpa to Vivillion, you earn 1 bonus Candy every time you evolve. So evolving one Scatterbug to Vivillion all the way gives you 2 bonus Candies in all.

Just like Field Research task encounters, you can run away from a Scatterbug encounter and ‘save’ it to catch at a later time. However, once an encounter is triggered, any additional Postcard pins from that region won’t count towards the next encounter until that saved Scatterbug is caught.
Handling so many Postcards and keeping a tab on them is daunting but we’ve got you covered with these handy tips:
- Postcards may be deleted and unpinned, so you don’t have to spend PokéCoins to buy extra storage.
- You can pin as many Postcards as you want. That said, once a Postcard has been pinned, it’s permanently pinned. In other words, the same postcard cannot be accounted for further progress.
- You can pin a Postcard and then unpin it, and you’ll still be able to open the gift. In case you’ve already opened the maximum number of Gifts of the day, just pin it to know that it’s not unique anymore. The next day, unpin it before opening the associated Gift.
- Keep in mind that you can pin/unpin your own Postcards (a maximum of 3 per day) when you send Gifts. This way, you are 3 steps closer to unlocking the Scatterbug of your specific region.
If you own Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, you can send Postcards to Switch. By doing this, you can encounter Vivillon of the specific region in Scarlet/Violet.
This is the tiring part. You’ll need friends situated in each Vivillon region to grab all the patterns. It’s challenging for sure but quite possible so here’s how you can take a crack at this:
- Maximize your friends list (450 friends) to increase your odds.
- Rename friends to pattern names based on their region. For instance, if a friend sends a Postcard from Egypt, give them the ‘River’ nickname. You can nickname up to 20 friends per day.
- Take a picture of the table containing the Vivillon patterns and their regions with you for reference. This can be a printout, on your laptop screen, or on another mobile.
- The /r/VivillonCollectors subreddit has tons of like-minded trainers with the same goal: catching all Vivillon patterns! Hop in there and add friends from all around the world! The Sun (Mexico, Madagascar) and Tundra (Iceland, Southern Norway, Sweden, North Japan) patterns are the rarest so be sure to add multiple friends from those regions.
- You can search those pattern names to filter out the friends from those regions.
- Shiny Scatterbug chances will be increased between February 18 and February 20, 2025. Needless to say, a majority of players would be grinding hard these two days, so keep opening Gifts actively.
- You can open up to 40 Gifts per day during the event and 60 Gifts if you have the Eggs-pedition Access: February ticket.
The time is now! Start stacking those Postcards right away for the two-day Vivillon bonanza, and may you get the shiny version and collect all the patterns soon!
Pursuing all Vivillon patterns has always been one of the most thrilling quests for Pokémon GO players and adding the shiny to the game is the icing on the top.
All the best, trainers!
