According to data collected by Appannie, one of the leading mobile analytics platforms, Niantic has landed a slam dunk in terms of player engagement and gross earnings with the new Legendary Raids feature.

The app rank was looking rather mediocre prior to July 19th, a few days before the GO Fest. At that date, 0.69.0 was released and data mining has shown that Legendary Pokémon are coming: Pokémon GO’s return to glory was ready to start.

In the next two days the in-game sales and download numbers skyrocketed, propelling Pokémon GO to first place in two categories:

  • top grossing US games and
  • top grossing US app (overall)

Additionally, daily downloads improved dramatically from July 19th to July 26:

  • July 19th rank:
    • US-Overall – 110
    • US-Games – 34
  • July 26th rank:
    • US-Overall – 34
    • US-Games – 8

Unsurprisingly, the GO Fest sale is the leading reason of increased earnings, as it offers Raid Passes at a discounted price, padded with additional convenience items (Pinap and Lures).

As many players have invested into collecting an ever increasing number of Legendary Pokémon, Premium Raid Passes are required in order to play the game on a regular basis.

Savings on Raid Passes 20% 18% 8%

In spite of the GO Fest failure, Pokémon GO is holding strong, with increased playerbase spendings and download numbers showing strong evidence that the AR craze is far from over.

We have at least two more weeks of raiding to look forward to, with Moltres being available this week and Zapdos the next week. However, if our gut feeling is correct, Ho-Oh should be making a surprise visit in the week following Zapdos, extending the Raiding craze for another seven days.

What do you mean the math is wrong? It’s spot on if you don’t count the ,

  • Mirek Mareš

Well the Raid passes savings are correct, but the all savings are incorrect yeah… because individual item cost isnt 2080 in the second pack but 2200.
    12x raid pass = 1200
    10x lure = 1000

    Same with the third pack 1600 + 2000 = 3600 not 3680

    • Dan

You forgot the 4 Incense. It’s really 3920.

  • Dan

There are 4 incense in the Ultra Box, so the cost should reflect 3920 if all items are bought individually. The Premium Box would also be 2200 if all items are purchased individually.

But, I’m going to assume that you’re using the 8 Lure deal for the math. That’s misleading. You should indicated that you would be purchasing 1 or 2 8-pack Lure Modules in those boxes for the math.

  • Dan

The math works for these numbers (they are using 8-Pack Lure Modules for their math).

    Special Box: 6 Raid Passes for 480 vs 6 Raid Passes for 600. 600-480 is 120. 120/600 is 20%.

Great Box: 12 Raid Passes for 980 vs 12 Raid Passes for 1200. 1200-980 is 220. 220/1200 is 18.3333%, rounded down to 18% for neatness.

Ultra Box: 16 Raid Passes for 1480 vs 16 Raid Passes for 1600. 1600-1480 is 120. 120/1600 is 7.5%, rounded up to 8% for neatness.

    The math is solid.

Does anyone know if they’ve officially done away with Raid Eggs, or if it’s just a temporary lapse? I cannot stand having Raid Bosses suddenly appear without warning while I’m en route to a Gym (to add my own Poke or remove an enemy’s) or in the middle of attacking one!

    • DishTR

It’s temporary for the release of the legendary birds. Rather than waiting for an egg to hatch, it gives players and extra hour of battling.

    • Dale Robinson

Go to another gym? it take less than 10 mins to take down a fully stacked gym. Hope they have done away with raid eggs, they were rubbish. The extra raiding time is great! If they do bring them back I hope the countdown is shortened to say 15 minutes or something. Waiting around for a tier 4 to hatch for an hour just to find out its a blastoice ect is a crap mechanic.

      • bandarlogical

Eh, gyms aren’t all that closely grouped around me, and I don’t know what you’re working with but at level 25 it takes me closer to 20 minutes to take down a fully supported gym. I could totally live with a 15-minute egg counter though–just some warning that the gym is about to be blocked out from attacking/bolstering for the next two hours would be nice.

  • Antonio Mercurio

This is a great step foward into the game, lets hope we get the next cool feature asap. This feature preferrably trading or gen 3

  • James Oliff

I am still stokes for the lines in the master data that implied cerebi will spawn via incense. unless that got removed and i missed it.

  • Partysaurus Rex

Perhaps I’m not understanding the charts right… but all I see are downloads of the app which does not at all necessarily equate to dollars spent. Gross earnings and player engagement should be and are on completely different trajectories… they are not equal.
