Pokémon Spotlight Hour will feature a different Pokémon and a special bonus for one hour at 6:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday during the month of February. Carvanha Spotlight Hour takes place on February 4th, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm local time, with a bonus of 2x XP for evolving Pokémon.

This Spotlight Hour is the first February 2025 Pokémon spotlight. It’s especially exciting as shiny Carvanha is available in Pokémon GO! It is also a great time to evolve any trash ‘mon in your storage before you transfer them.
Trainers who plan to participate should be prepared with a Mega Pokémon to maximise candy gains per Carvanha caught. Here’s everything you need to know!
If you want further information about Spotlight Hours, check out our comprehensive guide.
Bonuses
- You will get 2x XP for Evolving Pokémon
- Shiny Carvanha and its evolution is available in Pokémon GO
Note on XP Bonus
If you do not want to catch the featured Pokémon or do not have enough Carvanha candy saved, you can make use of the 2x Evolution XP bonus by evolving any saved Scatterbug, or opening a Mystery Box or Coin Bag and evolving those!
The old-school grinders will remember the days of saving Pidgey and other low-cost evolutions for this sort of spotlight hour, and it can be a good way to grind XP with a lucky egg on.

Carvanha is a Water and Dark-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO. As a Water and Dark-type Pokémon, Carvanha is weak to Bug, Electric, Fairy, Fighting, and Grass-type moves.
Carvanha’s maximum Combat Power stat is 1154 CP, and its best Pokémon GO moves are Bite and Poison Fang. Carvanha encounters are boosted during Rain and Fog weather. Shiny Carvanha is available! ✨

Shiny Carvanha
Shiny Carvanha is bright green and teal – you won’t miss it!
The following Pokémon will grant you extra bonuses when catching Carvanha if they are Mega/Primal evolved. While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it. Its high ATK and damaging Fast Moves like Bite and Waterfall help it tear down opponents when shields are up. Don’t expect it to last, though 😮💨. 🔵 Great League – A few niche matchups that don’t even matter much. 🟡 Ultra League – Some Fast Move damage shenanigans if maxed out to level 50, but then it gets hunted 🎣. 🟣 Master League – The shark dragon Garchomp exists in the Master League, and there’s no room for another 🐲. This fearsome shark Pokémon has the Jaws, the looks, and even a formidable 243 ATK to scare off anyone! 🦈 But, it also has only 83 DEF. That’s it, end of story. Fin. Roll credits. 🎥 ⚔️ Raids – Two or three Fast attacks and it’s a wrap! Don’t use it unless you’re desperate 😬. 🛡️ Gyms – This shark is prey here 😵.
