Primeape Raid Counters Guide

Primeape

Primeape is a tier-3 Raid Boss in Pokémon GO. Primeape is a Fighting type Pokémon, and is best countered by using Psychic and Flying Pokémon: Mewtwo, Hoopa, Alakazam, Espeon, Moltres and Mega Pidgeot to name a few.

Primeape has a raid boss CP of 16475.

Primeape can be caught with the following Combat Power values:

  • 1239 – 1307 CP (no weather boost)
  • 1549 – 1634 CP (Cloudy weather boost)

Primeape should be an easy solo raid for high level prepared trainers, but lower level trainers or those without ideal counters may need to bring a friend.

Since Shadow Pokémon are extremely expensive to power up and require specific events to remove Frustration with a Charge TM, they will NOT be listed as raid counters in this article. That being said, if you have the shadow form of a listed raid counter Pokémon powered up and TMed, use it.

Reminder: Mega-Evolved Pokémon give other Pokémon special bonuses when brought to a Raid Battle. While a Mega-Evolved Pokémon is on the battlefield, all Trainers’ Pokémon receive an attack boost to all their attacks and gain an additional attack boost if their attack types match the Mega-Evolved Pokémon’s type(s).

Primeape Move Sets Attack icon

Primeape can have the following moves:

Fast moves Charge moves
  • Counter Fighting
  • Low Kick Fighting
  • Close Combat Fighting
  • Low Sweep Fighting
  • Ice Punch Ice
  • Night Slash Dark

All of Primeape’s Fast moves are Fighting-type moves, and 50% of Charge moves are as well, which can make the entire fight easy and predictable.

However, if Primeape has Ice Punch, your Flying-type counters could be in danger. Fortunately, Night Slash doesn’t deal increased damage to Psychic-type counters, so they’re safe.

Weather Effects

  • Cloudy weather boosts Primeape’s level in the Catch encounter, but it also boosts Fighting-type moves, so Primeape will deal more damage
  • Windy weather will boost all Psychic and Flying counters, which makes it ideal weather for speed-raiding
  • Fog will boost Night Slash, and Snow will boost Ice Punch
  • Other weather conditions have no notable effects on this fight
