Rockruff is one of the few Pokémon featured in the first Gen VII wave in Pokémon GO. It is currently available in raids as a Tier 1 raid boss, and it can be caught with the following CP values:
- 499 – 543 CP at Level 20, no weather boost
- 624 – 679 CP at Level 25 with Partly Cloudy weather boost
It is a Rock type Pokémon, which makes it weak to Grass, Ground, Steel, Water and Fighting type moves. And yes, it can be shiny.

Whenever the shadow variant of a Pokémon listed below is available in the game, it is strongly recommended to use it over its regular/purified counterpart. However, since Shadow Pokémon are extremely expensive to power up and require specific events to TM away Frustration, they will NOT be listed as raid counters in this article.
Rockruff has so many weaknesses that the list could go on forever. If you don’t have ANY of the Pokémon listed above powered up, you can always use:
- “Generalist” Pokémon such as Psycho Cut + Psystrike* Mewtwo
- Eevolutions capable of dealing super effective damage such as Vaporeon or Leafeon
- Other heavy-hitting megas
But please, try to use the Pokémon listed above if possible, your raid mates will thank you for that.

Rockruff is only a dex filler but one of its evolutions, Midnight Lycanroc, is actually a Pokémon worth considering for PvP if you love running spice.
It has access to the best fast move in the game (Counter), along with Psychic Fangs, Crunch and Stone Edge. Keep in mind though that rock type Pokémon have plenty of weaknesses in the current meta and Lycanroc is not really a bulky Pokémon either.
We hope you found this raid guide useful, happy hunting!
